The picture above is of Mount McCowan with the Yellowstone River near Brisbin, Montana.
Another picture of the Yellowstone River.
I think this photo has great compostion.
Beautiful river scene.
Picture of one of the great signs they have for the National Park Service.
This thermal feature has some walkways behind it.
Most thermal features have these great walkways to protect from soil erosion and also protect the human visitors from slipping, getting burned from scalding (6 comments)
I took this picture when I was on a hike around Ice Lake and saw this grey wolf on a trail. It was thrilling and a little scary to be so near a wild creature. I must warn you the Ice Lake trail is NOT an easy hike. Wear hiking boots and bring walking stick(s). You also have to cross 2 streams with a possibility of getting wet both times.
This beautiful blue water is part of one of the many (6 comments)
montana tourism: The Grand Coulee Dam -- Sept 09
- 10/10/09 10:00 AM
On my last vacation in September of 2009 to Glacier National Park, we went to the Grand Coulee Dam, and in the visitors center was this blow up of a three cent stamp. All the dams in the Washington/Montana area generate hydroelectric power, but what I didn't know is the tour guide said that the power is sent north and south to locations because the magnetic pull of the earth causes major loss of electricity if you send it east and west. I'd never heard that before.
As you can see, they had all sorts of great memorabilia there are (1 comments)
montana tourism: Trains and more Trains -- Glacier National Park

My husband loves trains. This trip to Glacier National Park we stayed at a Hotel that had train tracks in the back, so we knew when trains were passing. Then we would head out and "chase" the trains. This Amtrak train had left the Izaak Walton Hotel about 30 minutes earlier. I'm sure the views from the train are spectacular of the all the scenery around there.
These two Burlington Northern Sante Fe engines are passing under a pedestrian walkway, I think it is the one from the Izaak Walton Hotel.
This was a very unique waterfall that caught my eye. It was near the top of Hurricane Ridge in Glacier National Park. It looks manmade or at least part of it looks like it was assisted by humans.
This beautiful spot is Bowman Lake. It was very tranquil and quiet. There were warning signs all over the hiking trails about watching for Black (3 comments)
montana tourism: Glacier National Park -- Sept 09

One of the signs from Glacier National Park. The park service is excellent about placing signs at the park boundaries. They are getting creative.
Another beautiful day in September in Glacier National Park. I think this is Mary's Lake. The day I ate lunch in the parking lot was super windy. The next day we went back so we could do a boat ride and found out that they had stopped the cruises the previous day. The picture below was taken in front of an old railway station. The wheel was about 12' high. Very impressive when you are (3 comments)
montana tourism: Love Trains? Visit the Izaak Walton Hotel on your next vacation

This adorable hotel (The Izaak Walton Hotel) is modeled after a train station in Washington state. It is located next to 6 or 7 working railroad tracks. As you can see they have some adorable flowers lining the sidewalk from the railroad tracks to the back of the hotel. My husband is a train buff and it was wonderful that he could order breakfast and then go out and take a picture of a train an then come back in and eat breakfast. The food was pretty good as well. They have a package deal for three nights that includes (2 comments)
