steam trains: UP844 Steam Train Video -- November 2012 - 11/08/12 07:29 AM
Great video of UP844 zooming through its trip to Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.  My friend Ed was the engineer on this trip.  The turn out in all the small towns was amazing, with the turnout in Amarillo being so big we had a hard time finding a parking space.  I was told UP844 had never travelled this way.  I was happy so many people turned out to see it.
UP844 is touring America as part of a goodwill tour and to celebrate the UP 150 year anniversary.

steam trains: Do You Love Trains? Steam Train UP844 in October & November 2011 - 11/19/11 10:13 AM
Do You Love Trains?  Steam trains are rare these days, and Union Pacific runs its UP844 only a few times a year as a goodwill gesture.  These pictures are from the October - November 2011 run from Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Here UP844 is crossing a trestle going over a small river.  There were about 20 of us on an adjacent bridge taking this photo.

This man followed the train from Wyoming to Colorado.

Here is a train engine that we saw on one of the days that the train wasn't running.  This particular engine looks like the one I … (1 comments)

This picture was taken in Colorado.  You can see a few of the train chasers beween the train and the pine tree.

THis Southern Pacific engine was a beautiful contrast to the black and yellow train.  It almost reminds me of the daylight express colors.

Here is a head on shot of the train as it is coming around a corner.  Notice the Colorado flag on the front?  They changed the flag everytime they went into … (1 comments)

steam trains: Steam Train 844 in All Its Glory! From April 11, 2010 in Texas - 02/04/11 02:05 PM
Steam Train 844 in All Its Glory! From April 11, 2010 in Texas.

This steam train is huge.  When you stand next to it, you feel minuscule.  The black panels on the sides are a little different than I'm used to seeing on trains in the United States.  My source says the panels are smoke deflectors.

Here the train is roaring out of Navasota.  The amount of steam is impressive.  I really like this shot.

I think this is a different angle from the last shot, but this one captures more of the vertical steam and smoke.
