trains: Yellowstone National Park Video -- From Your Tomball Realtor - 04/23/13 09:06 AM
Here is a video about Yellowstone National Park.  It discusses he best season to visit Yellowstone.  I hope you enjoy it and are able to visit Yellowstone yourself someday.  The bison or buffalo are an awesome sight, and, in at least one section of Yellowstone, large herds of bison cross the road at least once a day.  Imagine hundreds of bison walking along and over the road you are driving in on your car.  It is really an awe inspiring sight.  It usually causes a traffic jamb, but everyone can see the bison up close during the slow progression.

trains: UP Train Video & Flatonia, TX Photo Pavillion Meeting - 4/6/13 - 04/07/13 09:59 AM
This last Saturday was the annual meeting at the Flatonia Photo Pavillion, where rail fans from all over meet to take photos of trains, buy or sell train memorabilia and just come to visit with other train buffs.  This year the meeting was blessed by perfect weather, the sky was clear most of the time and the temperatures were in the 70's and 80's.

As you can see there is even a wheelchair ramp.  There are several picnic tables to sit at under the cover.   The whole pavillion has great views of the railroad tracks.
Here is a video I took while in downtown Flatonia. http://youtu.be/ySdcmWyGrmw.  … (2 comments)

Dallas Area Train Show -- Jan 19 & 20, 2013

A lot of the train displays are very elaborate, such as this circus layout.  Even the rides worked, like the parachute ride in the background.

Here is a train ride for the family.

Another detailed model train layout.

Looking from the stage you can see the convention hall is filled with exhibits and train displays.

Here is a close up of the Daylight Express -- one of my favorite trains.  It is on the "bucket list".

Another awesome display.  The model railroaders really take alot … (1 comments)

trains: Do You Love Trains? Steam Train UP844 in October & November 2011 - 11/19/11 10:13 AM
Do You Love Trains?  Steam trains are rare these days, and Union Pacific runs its UP844 only a few times a year as a goodwill gesture.  These pictures are from the October - November 2011 run from Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Here UP844 is crossing a trestle going over a small river.  There were about 20 of us on an adjacent bridge taking this photo.

This man followed the train from Wyoming to Colorado.

Here is a train engine that we saw on one of the days that the train wasn't running.  This particular engine looks like the one I … (1 comments)

This picture was taken in Colorado.  You can see a few of the train chasers beween the train and the pine tree.

THis Southern Pacific engine was a beautiful contrast to the black and yellow train.  It almost reminds me of the daylight express colors.

Here is a head on shot of the train as it is coming around a corner.  Notice the Colorado flag on the front?  They changed the flag everytime they went into … (1 comments)

trains: The Great Train Robbery: This Day In History,1963 - 08/08/11 05:51 AM
The Great Train Robbery: August 8th,1963.

There was a movie made about this robbery.

"The Great Train Robbery" took place in England.  A gang of 15 train robbers stole 2.6 million pounds in bank notes.

If you watch the movie you can see what the producers and directors think took place to plan and execute the robbery.  One of the robbers that was captured was Charlie Wilson.  I found an interesting tidbit on Wikipedia about him:
On 12 August 1964, Charlie Wilson escaped from Winson Green Prison in Birmingham in under 3 minutes, with the escape being unprecedented … (2 comments)

Austin And Texas Central Railroad -- June 11, 2011.  A lady in my office needs a rental in Austin, and I volunteered to show her properties.  I got to Austin on Friday night and took these pictures on Saturday morning.

This is the train that runs between Leander and Cedar Park.    This is the Leander station.

This Austin Western diesel locomotive is painted in a different style than the one I saw last time in Austin.  The one I saw last year was orange and black paint scheme.

This is a close up of flower at train station.

This was taken on the way home from the 24 Hours in Saginaw party at the Depot.  Saginaw is near Fort Worth.  There were 49 trains during the 24 hours.

I'm proud of this one, I got the whole thing in the picture and it is very clear.

This was taken on the way to the Saginaw party.  I think it was near Mumford.

***Sunsets and Pictures From Texas***

I took this picture while on Sunday the way home from the 24 Hours in Saginaw  Train event last weekend.  What fun that was.

I like this shot because the sunset is back lighting the tree.

Does this remind you of twilight zone?

I saw this mural on a wall facing train tracks in a small town where we were chasing a train.  What does the blotch on the back of the cow remind you of?

Cool cactus with lots of buds on it.  I've never seen so many buds in a … (4 comments)

These pictures were taken on the way to the 24 Hour At The Depot Event at Saginaw, Texas.

This gold and blue CSX train was in Hearne, Texas.

This purple flower reminds me of a balloon flower.  I love the Texas star shape.

Great steam train beside the depot in Temple Texas.

After i took some pictures of a train I noticed this great cactus.

I love the composition of this photo.  I may have taken it during the 24 Hours at The Depot Event … (1 comments)

trains: Do You Like Trains? Fun Day Trip Activity From Your Houston Real Estate Professional - 03/27/11 03:38 PM
Do You Like Trains?  Fun Day Trip Activity!   When you are out looking at wildflowers or going from city to city and passing through little towns where the train tracks are visible from the street, you could take pictures of trains.

These pictures were taken today while on a wildflower trip.  This picture was taken between Somerville and Waller, Texas.

This BNSF 6614 train was barreling down the track.   I just love the orange and black colors.

This was taken in Somerville, Texas about 3pm.  The BNSF crew was unhooking cars and the noise was very … (3 comments)

Do You Love Trains? Stay At The Izaak Walton Inn Near Glacier National Park.

This adorable hotel (The Izaak Walton Hotel) is modeled after a train station in Washington state.  It is located next to 6 or 7 working railroad tracks.  As you can see they have some adorable flowers lining the sidewalk from the railroad tracks to the back of the hotel.  My husband is a train buff and it was wonderful that he could order breakfast and then go out and take a picture of a train an then come back in and eat breakfast.  The … (3 comments)

trains: The Trinity Railway Express - 03/17/11 05:08 PM
The Trinity Railway Express runs 6 days a week.  It does not run on government holidays.

I rode on this double decker train on the top deck.  The scenery was lovely from the top deck.

Here is what the end of the train looks like.  They do not have cabooses.

Here is a picture of the front of a TRE Engine at a station.

This waterway is part of the scenery from the train.

Steam Train 844 in All Its Glory! From April 11, 2010 in Texas.

This steam train is huge.  When you stand next to it, you feel minuscule.  The black panels on the sides are a little different than I'm used to seeing on trains in the United States.  My source says the panels are smoke deflectors.

Here the train is roaring out of Navasota.  The amount of steam is impressive.  I really like this shot.

I think this is a different angle from the last shot, but this one captures more of the vertical steam and smoke.
