When high school volleyball was in its infancy, I was teaching at Cape's Central High School, where I was the adviser to the school newspaper and yearbook. For my reporters to cover the fledgling volleyball team as a "real" sport was a controversial move. That may seem ludicrious now, but it was a big deal then. "Girls' sport" was, indeed, an oxymoron; because there were no officially recognized sports for girls.
