I admit that I didn't even LIKE the house at 219 N. Middle when I first saw it. Obviously neglected, the house had a rusting tin roof, flaking stucco, and more than one broken window. We first got the assignment the week of Christmas, and the weather outside was brutal. I sent my husband to have an initial look and take preliminary photos. The back door was open, so in he went. When you renew your broker license, you need to update HUD registration, as well. For example, Missouri brokers have renewed their licenses through 2014 by now, but the HUD website does not know that fact. Even if their NAID number is current, the broker license expiration date on the HUD webpage will be out of date--as all Missouri broker license expiration dates are June 30. Brokers must update their own credentials on the website before any of their agents can make offers on HUD properties, and the process must be repeated during each renewal cycle. High school can be a miserable time. During my 20 plus years with high schoolers, I used to preach and preach the following: These are NOT the best times of your life. Life does get better when you can make some of your own rules. The traits that others tease you about right now are often the VERY TRAITS that serve you well for the rest of your life and set you apart from others in a GOOD way.

The nest-shaking started with a text message from a co-worker at 12:13 pm on Jan. 20. About three minutes' worth of texting back and forth, and the picture was pretty clear. Our office was closing March 1, and all of the agents were being transferred to the office across town, which was owned by the same corporation. It was a purely financial decision, we were assured. There was no need to have two branches of the same franchise, owned by the same corporation, in our town. So start packing and move on over to the other building.
