about fort myers beach: Taking a time out - 04/20/10 12:07 PM

It rained on and off on Estero Island the last couple of days and it rained on my desk continually.  We needed the rain anyway and now the grass is growing faster and the island is back to its normal state. Its warm during the day and in the low 70’s at night. As for my desk, it looks like an organized mess. I did try to log in most of my data online or on a exterior drive. We all try to be greener and waste less paper but the reports and other flyers still build up colored piles.I … (4 comments)

about fort myers beach: Fort Myers Beach receives another National Award - 04/01/10 01:49 PM
structure
The resident and the government of Fort Myers Beach can pat themselves on the back. For the 5 the year in a row Fort Myers Beach has been recognized as a tree city. This national recognition is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State foresters and the USDA forest Services. It is a big deal as leaves filter the air and improves the air we and our fellow animal breath. We have long known that landscaping improves the value of a property and trees such as our dozen of palms and Floridian trees … (1 comments)

about fort myers beach: Discovering Estero Island of Fort Myers Beach - 03/10/10 03:32 PM
Welcome to Fort Myers BeachFort Myers Beach!
Estero Island is the largest island by far of the community of Fort Myers Beach. Its is 7 miles long by 3/4 of a mile in its widest. The whole length boats a white sanded beach facing the Gulf Of Mexico.
There are a few major beaches along the Southwest of Florida, as in Marco Island, Naples, Bonita Springs, Sanibel, the small but wonderful beach of Cape Coral and at last but not least Fort Myers Beach. It ranks as one of the safest in Florida.
Originally a small fishing town,Fort Myers Beach became … (1 comments)

about fort myers beach: Seasons Greetings from Fort Myers Beach: short video - 12/27/09 03:15 PM
What a year it has been! I have seen the Good the Bad and the Ugly in our region of Southwest Florida, as many have in other parts of the US. High unemployment, to many short sales and foreclosures and during the last 3 to 4 months an encouraging leveling of our house market. In some areas of Lee County even some appreciation of our average market home value. For many reasons 1000’s are investing in Southwest Florida, hopefully a good amount did save their homes.
Overall I am cautiously optimistic for 2010. It is going to be a very … (4 comments)

about fort myers beach: Florida beach condos: top 11 direct gulf front condos in Fort Myers Beach - 12/11/09 04:20 PM

There are many factors why the following condos in  Fort Myers Beach make the list. Above all the views, the direct views of the Gulf of Mexico is the obvious criteria. The rest of the criteria are base on the quality of the structure of the building it self, the floor plans they offer, how well they can be rented if need be, and what the community offers as a whole.

about fort myers beach: Fort Myers Beach gulf access short sale pool home - 11/19/09 02:19 PM
Located mid island, this Fort Myers Beach Short sale is a well built classical island home with a true gulf access canal frontage.

The first floor apartment has been recently remodeled and looks pretty sharp. This was a good surprise. Granite counter, tile floor, redone bathroom.Top floor needs some floor and kitchen upgrading. A bit old fashioned.   The house is elegant. It does have a canal frontage which would be good  enough for a 25 footer or so. Views of the canal are good and one can see the Bay from the dock. Lanai is quite large and old … (2 comments)

about fort myers beach: Lemon tree gone wild - 11/06/09 05:17 PM
Fort Myers Beach gardens always surprises me. A few years back I planted a citrus tree with my wife Karen. A lemon tree. The first year we got maybe six or so quite large lemons. Now on its third year these fruits are getting ridiculously large. Larger then an orange, as big as a medium grapefruit.
I wonder how big they will get next season? Nature never ceases to amaze me.

The real lemon is twice as large as this picture. And these citrus trees do not need much. Fort Myers Beach dirt is a sandy loam … (7 comments)

about fort myers beach: Diary of a Realtor: Let's not go crazy again! - 11/03/09 02:40 PM
Southwest Florida Real Estate has been through a lot in the last five years. We have seen the highs of 2004-2005 with appreciation jumping a mindboggling 47% during these two years to the lows when the bubble burst in 2007. During the following years I have seen hard working Americans loosing their homes, either because they were misinformed, lied to or plainly not qualified. Others got in as fast as they got out and laughed all the way to the bank. Since then the market has been turned upside down in Southwest Florida. The deals are here for sure in Cape Coral and Fort Myers & … (6 comments)

about fort myers beach: Now I can eat more for breakfast - 10/14/09 04:33 PM
For many years I have enjoyed walking, biking or jogging the shore of Fort Myers Beach. There is always something new. It is a moveable feast as Hemingway would say. That morning I did see that our brown pelicans looked bigger and well fed. At that time the sun bounces off the tip of the waves and it blinds you a bit. A bit surreal but tranquil, and powerful. the island is 7 miles plus long. same for the length of the beach. Plenty to explore.

There is always something to learn. Further away I saw some … (5 comments)

  Quote Wordless Monday: island life
Why are so many drawn to islands? Perhaps we just want to be away from cities? That is one of the reasons why Fort Myers Beach  has been my home for nearly ten years. We also call it Estero Island. I call it home.  Its just a hop on Sky Bridge to Fort Myers. You can smell the salt in the air. Water is everywhere. It embraces your life and makes you smile.

about fort myers beach: A room with a view: Sky Bridge Fort Myers Beach - 10/02/09 04:31 PM
As one drives from Fort Myers on San Carlos Boulevard you will be offered a treat. Little by little, as your car climbs Sky Bridge,  you will be able to get a full view of Fort Myers Beach. Yesterday, I decided to take a few shots from the very top of the bridge. This time I walked. One can take their time and enjoy a panoramic view of Fort Myers Beach and its canals fingering  the island with salt water  all the way towards Estero Boulevard, which runs parallel to the Gulf  and, beyond, the Gulf Of Mexico.

about fort myers beach: Places to eat, stay, boat and kick back in Fort Myers Beach - 08/30/09 05:46 PM
Heavenly Biscuit off Estero Blvd is always a fun lay back small restaurant to enjoy the local flavor of Fort Myers Beach. Its located just at the start of mango Street. I recommend its sticky buns, salmon, fruit and eggs brunch breakfast. Just a great place to mix it up with the local residents or enjoy
the local paper and stay away from your lap top!

Just a few steps away is the very recent Mango Street Inn.It offers cooking classes, wine tasting, is a green Inn and you may stay there one week, one day or one month. I … (3 comments)

about fort myers beach: Fort Myers Beach information: making a home larger without a permit - 08/02/09 04:24 PM
Welcome to Fort Myers Beach ingenuity! And its legal!

Living room/dining room al fresco on the island of Fort Myers Beach.

My fellow residents in Fort Myers Beach never cease to amaze me. If their home is not large enough, they will find a way to add a "room", even under their home.
This one is special because you can dine with your family or friends and look at the gulf with your feet almost on the sand. Notice: this living room/dining room is bit more formal with the cubble stones for the flooring.
Who knows? perhaps in a year … (9 comments)

P>This is not right.
"Fort Myers Beach town manager Scott Janke was fired Tuesday after it recently came to light that his wife is an adult film actress who goes by the name of "Jazella Moore," FLORIDA TODAY news partner The News-Press of Fort Myers reports." When Scott Janke took the job in April of 2008 many of us were elated that we had a pro active Town Manager. At each town meetings he seemed well prepared and ready to take the town in another direction: basically get things done!  If its the beach nourishments, the master zoning plan, the … (8 comments)

about fort myers beach: Wedding on the sand - 07/09/09 04:40 PM
That was fun to witness. They married on the beach. It was a simple wedding with flames and only the direct family and a few friends. My wife did the ceremony. I think it was their second for both of them. They seem to have that thing that clicks together. The wedding was smack on the sand of Fort Myers Beach. Just at sunset. The bride was tad late but they just caught the sun before it fell on the sea at the horizon. That was her special day.

One could pay alarge sum to have a fancy wedding and such, but this one … (10 comments)

about fort myers beach: Fort Myers Beach new Fertilizer Ordinance is greener - 07/07/09 04:29 PM
Surely its about time The City of Fort Myers Beach passed a Fertilizer Ordinance. When I talk to residents who have been on the island for over 20 years, they tell me that they used to swim in the back bay of Fort Myers Beach or Estero Bay. We can in some parts but not everywhere. We will again.

With the popularity of lawns and the growth of boating all around Estero island, it is not surprising that the quality of our waters were affected, specially during the summer days when the rain falls precipitation is at its … (3 comments)

It is amazing That the Declaration of Independence was drafted in such a short time. The first part was influenced by the Virginia declaration of Rights. Lets give credit to the Virginians  first!
Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is  the nation's most celebrated, cherished and respected symbol of liberty. It is also Thomas Jefferson’s most endearing and formidable document.Later on came the Bill of Rights and The Constitution.
It is mostly a list of hard list of grievances against the  English. It is our declaration of Independence from … (4 comments)

on the left Miss Cape Coral. On the right all in white Miss Calusa.

about fort myers beach: Fort Myers Beach foreclosures June 2009 - 06/26/09 01:49 PM

Welcome to Southwest Florida! Many buyers are coming off the fence and buying in Lee county and Collier county and for good reasons.Golf communities, water sports, canal homes, fishing, homes on dry lots at 2002-2003 prices, homes on the river, gulf access homes, large choices of townhouses, carriages homes and condos, gulf frontage homes and more are some of the reasons buyers are making their moves. But what do buyers really want? Deals! Good properties which can be bought for 40-60% on the dollar. That makes sense.
