about fort myers beach: Our friend Bonnie's wild garden - 01/10/08 02:49 PM
Bonnie is a free spirit. We met her soon after we moved from Naples some nine years ago. She was raised in NY and her family relocated to Naples in the 70's. But Naples for all its beauty was not her style and she opted for the Old Florida life style of Fort Myers Beach some 25 years ago.It was pretty wild then. Now its party wild partly conservative.
Her garden shows part of that laiser faire attitude. No pesticides there.Every plant is let in its natural environment. Some years the bougainvilleas, banana trees, buttonwoods were so grown and palms where so high and … (10 comments)

about fort myers beach: "Sundance" 42' Yacht charters the Gulf of Mexico - 11/30/07 05:24 AM
I have known Captain David Richardson for over 8 years. He used to anchor his 42' yacht on the back bay not far from our home. His wife would walk our street in Fort Myers Beach to work with her cool mutt Rusty and my wife and her would exchange island news and talk about her dog as he is 15 years old.  What he really loves is sailing. He charters his yacht year long. This is Florida chartering at its best.It is his passion. He makes Fort Myers Beach sailing a smooth and laid back adventure. There is no rush with Captain … (6 comments)

about fort myers beach: Warning: pets and their tummies - 11/20/07 01:54 PM
Like many dog owners I take my dog pretty much everywhere. I live on island in Florida called Fort Myers Beach and we even are allowed to bring our dog there which is pretty cool because she likes to swim and chase egrets and what not.She is a water dog. A Rhodesian ridge back of 96 lbs and at 8 years old in pretty darn strong health but lately she has not been herself.
After trial and error I finally found the problem.Dogs have that nasty habit of sniffing and licking most things in nature. That is … (7 comments)

about fort myers beach: Florida Cracker House meets the XXI century - 11/18/07 04:37 PM
As I was cruising along Estero island or Fort Myers Beach I saw a garage sell sign and it took me to a 2 hectares property which covers one whole block and ends up with its south side on a gulf access canal. It is indeed a Florida cracker house. These days we migth call them Beach cottage or Beach Bangalow. It has all the details of the pre-air conditioning architecture with the many windows, the board and batten structure,  the slopped front roof which covers the front porch and of course the chimney. The home dates from the 1930's and needs some work … (1 comments)

about fort myers beach: Fort Myers Beach during a late night adventure - 11/17/07 02:55 PM
Its late at night and the breeze from Estero Bay is going through my house. I can hear the racoons, cats, lizards and frogs jumping but I am curious to see nature in the deep night. November is my favorite month In Fort Myers Beach. Just when the snow birds are starting to come back but before the big invasion. The air is cool enough to wear a sweater for these with thin Floridian blood and along my street I can hear some rock and rool in the back ground. I am eager to see what nature can offer me at … (5 comments)

about fort myers beach: New Small Complex with Gulf views - 11/17/07 05:31 AM
Fort Myers Beach has a new condo. They started building it in 2006 and it was just recently finished. Yes, they took their time or the town took their time with the permits.Either way it was well worth the wait. Its located mid island near Publix and accross from the Gulf. It means it will take you 1 mn at most to reach the Guf access on Newtown beach. There seem to be a new trend in Fort Myers Beach. Developpers seem to be attracted to smaller plush complexes with mediterraneen/Italian architectural influences mixed with Floridian know how at its best. The … (3 comments)

about fort myers beach: Reggae party along the Beach (video) - 08/28/07 09:42 AM
This was taken a few weeks ago in front of the Gulf of Mexico at the Lanai Kai Hotel. Some visitors and residents took some time off to kick back and smell the roses. Many danced and it didn't matter if you didn't dance well. No problem here.Next time I'll try not to dance at the same time I film! This band kept this up beat style for most of the gig and also had to sing a few Bob Marley favorites like "redemption" and No woman No Cry" but most fo the time they just moved along in that intoxicating … (0 comments)

about fort myers beach: Walking along Fort Myers Beach (slide) - 07/31/07 05:36 PM
This was taken throughout different months. I am still playing around with it and wondering if the color is better or not. Anyway, so far its either a normal slide or B and W with effects...lol I am really testing this as its embedded and might just use the normal url...I hope you enjoy the walk! Sometimes I just roam about along Fort Myers Beach and something catches my eye. There are many great places to live in the USA but its not always greener the other side. For now its the heat and we are like lizards and wake up … (8 comments)

about fort myers beach: Condo in Fort Myers Beach has tough sellers but why? - 07/15/07 03:47 PM
The notes and MLS Statistics show that owners of Gullwing Beach Resort Condo show that owners are not willing to "adjust " to the present trend and lower their asking price by much.
Perhaps the fact that it is a prime location smack on the beach has to do with that "stubbornness", but also that owners do get some revenues and are willing to wait until they do get their price is the other driving force. After all Fort Myers Beach, FL,seems to have gone through a small surge of sales and did close 110 residential homes and condos in the last … (1 comments)

When I drive by Mound House,in Fort Myers Beach  Florida, which is a sort of old fashioned part frame part brick  2 story home with a length long arc-haded walk way on its first floor and its old world charm, I feel like a kid when we were sneaking at night with flash lights in old homes which were left by its owners for many years. The gate of the State Park called http://www.floridastateparks.org/moundkey/default.cfm also:

about fort myers beach: Old or New home in Fort Myers and The Beach. What is the best buy? - 06/12/07 03:20 PM
Why is this home a better buy? This is the question many of my investors ask. What is the best deal you can get for your buck in Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach Beach? You have seen the home. You have been there many times.Your partner and yourself agree that it has charm. The location is terrific. The landscaping is mature and exotic and there is plenty of shade under the grown royal palms. The Jasmin vine covers a whole corner of the picket fence and the fragrance swells your nostrils after the rain.

about fort myers beach: An Old Fashioned place to eat and schmooze - 06/07/07 10:59 AM
My wife and I first met Heather Haywood some 4 years ago when she opened The Heavenly Biscuit restaurant on Mango Street in Fort Myers Beach Florida. It was previously owned by a mom and pop team who after a few years decided to move on. People liked them but it takes a special person to make it in this business and they were just treading water. Heather had already her vision when she came in and when her husband was not helping in the kitchen, between his businesses, she basically did everything to make it work.People come above all to enjoy … (5 comments)

about fort myers beach: Fort Myers Beach Offers new Beachfront Fractional Condo-Hotel - 06/07/07 09:31 AM
It was only 3 months ago when the Neptune Inn started to change into The Neptune resort. First I had doubts as I had seen quite a few  condo hotels being build with mixed success. Some seemed to look sharp enough but I had reservations on the extravagant on site rental and management fees which often range from 40% to 50%.An unit could very well bring over $30,000 a year but when it was all said and done, the owner would end up with only $15,000 minus condos fees. These condos fees were often over $300 a month so you do … (0 comments)

about fort myers beach: Fort Myers Beach slide show during a small tropical storm - 06/02/07 06:40 AM
Finally we got some rain and we got the perfect tropical storm. Just plenty of rain.We couldn't have asked for a better rain pour.
Downtown Fort Myers Beach was renovated approximately five years ago and since then, they have resurfaced many of the streets and remodeled the buildings. The above photograp was shot the same day after a much awaited rainfall, breaking the area's drought.  The rain poured and already many visitors were back in town  after a full 24 hours of on and off again rain. The Local people love it and the kids are surfing surf.
The cobblestones were part of the resurfacing of the street, and more of the … (10 comments)

about fort myers beach: Fort Myers Beach for Investors:what kind of home to buy - 06/01/07 08:02 AM
There are many factors which make a property a sound investment. The homes which I recommend are located in Fort Myers with Gulf Access canals. I look at different clues which make these stand out. My motto in this case is quite brutal: get the most for the less money. There are however other factors with which I make these recommendations.
Except for the property on Primo drive which I will mention in a next blog which is one of the lowest asking prices in Fort Myers Beach with a gulf access canal, the others may have similar priced homes in that square footage for example but they stand … (0 comments)

about fort myers beach: What are the best beaches in Florida? - 05/31/07 03:49 PM
Sometimes I forget that the grass is not greener the other side of the street. My wife and I moved to Florida in 1990 with one job and a place to rent. We left behind the cold beauty of North Shore MA and its then challenged economy. We started living in Key West, where it seemed then that the time was standing still and after another move to Old Naples we opted for Fort Myers Beach for its more lay back life style and the fact that even though its an island, its so close to the main land that you feel you have the best … (7 comments)
