dogs in san francisco: Merry Christmas To All - 12/24/19 08:31 AM

A quick wish to all my friends on Active Rain and elsewhere:
I wish you peace and joy,
lights to brighten your darkest days,
and love and kindness to fill your hearts.
(A bit of fun, too, to bring a smile to your faces)
(Tanner, Rachael's Golden Retriever, hates costumes, but is really trying to be good!)
Merry Christmas!

dogs in san francisco: A San Francisco "good-bye" to 2017 - 01/01/18 10:59 AM
While much of the country is keeping warm indoors, we're fortunate to be able to enjoy being out and about (much to Tanner's delight as well as ours.)
Playing in the bay at Crissy Field is Tanner's first choice for a great outing, and we enjoyed doing just that a couple of days ago.
However, on New Year's Eve day we enjoyed a 5-mile walk through Golden Gate Park, out to Ocean Beach near the Cliff House and meandered back to our car.
This is one reason we pay the big bucks to live here! Our houses tend to be small, and very expensive -- … (16 comments)

dogs in san francisco: Tanner at The Candy Store - 01/15/17 09:16 AM
I'm fortunate to have Rachael and her wonderful Golden Retriever, Tanner, living a few short blocks away from us.
Tanner is lucky that I love to walk, and if I'm not running a lot of errands or shopping, I often take him along on my explorations.
One recent afternoon, after the rains had stopped for a while, we took a fast walk down Franklin Street to Lombard Street On the way back up Van Ness Avenue I decided to pop into my favorite candy store: The Candy Store on Vallejo Street where I occasionally treat myself to licorice!
The best assortment of licorice … (20 comments)

dogs in san francisco: Adventures with Tanner--a walk along Broadway - 05/05/16 07:48 AM
I wrote previously about a walk to Aquatic Park and the fun we had there with Tanner, the golden retriever. Mid-day today I took a break, and borrowed Tanner again for more adventures.
Our free time was short, so we simply walked along Broadway, from Franklin to the top of the Lyon Street stairs and the pedestrian entry to the Presidio.
This Google map cracks me up--Google doesn't think walking on Broadway is advisable, I guess because of the steep ups and downs. Tanner thought it delightful. I survived.
Being an energetic young dog, Tanner didn't stay still for many pictures, but we did … (23 comments)

dogs in san francisco: Take a look at this face.... - 04/17/16 07:38 AM
For your Sunday pleasure, here's a lovely Victorian house to enjoy.
This house is located on Gough Street in San Francisco, directly across from Lafayette Park. It's an eye-catching house, worthy of a look and a picture.
Now, take a look at the upper window in the second picture.
This cutie was gazing wistfully at the park, at all the dogs out there enjoying the sun and each other.
You just never know what you'll see when walking around the City.

dogs in san francisco: Exuberance - who can express it better than a Golden? - 11/22/14 02:28 AM
San Francisco is a city that loves its dogs. You see them romping in the parks, playing at the water's edge along Crissy Field, walking sedately on a leash on city streets.
We have dog parks, off-leash dog parks, and treats for dogs at shops.
While many dogs living here are small and well-suited to life in an apartment or condominium, Golden Retrievers are popular for their good, fun-loving natures.
This video, which is making the rounds on Facebook, expresses perfectly the happy-go-lucky nature of Golden Retrievers, and seems well-suited to the I-don't-always-stay-between-the-lines nature of San Franciscans themselves.
Enjoy!
