Some people might say summer in San Francisco means fog and chilly winds, but to others summer in San Francisco means FREE Sunday afternoon concerts in Stern Grove.
2017 marks the 80th year when residents and visitors alike enjoy a wide variety of music in the majestic natural amphitheater surrounded by huge eucalyptus, redwood and fir trees. Located in the western side of the City, Stern Grove at the corner of Sloat Boulevard and 19th Avenue, near the West Portal and Sunset neighborhoods, not far from the San Francisco Zoo.
In 2017, concerts started in June and run through August 27. Next up:

This week is Fleet Week 2016 in San Francisco. As usual, it kicks off mid-week and culminates with the thrilling air shows, extended to 3-days this year. Activities began today and increase tomorrow.
By Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Fleet week is in full swing, with the parade of ships one day and air shows all three afternoons. Activities wind down next Monday.
Here's a rundown of activities, as reported on SF Gate. I have highlighted some of the most popular events in red:
THURSDAY
8 a.m.-12 p.m.: Softball tournament finals with the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet Band, Moscone Rec Center, 1800 Chestnut St.

Summertime in San Francisco - not the hot beach weather many people associate with summer, our "Cool Gray City of Love" celebrates summer with its own special activities.
One of the most revered activities is the Stern Grove Festival, celebrating its 78th season this year. Gifted to the City of San Francisco by Rosalie M. Stern in 1931 and named to honor her husband, Sigmund, Mrs. Stern declared the grove was to be preserved as a park offering free music, dance, and theater performances for the enjoyment of the public. Every Sunday, between 11:00 and 2:00 (unless it rains) come join the happy, dancing feet, the smiling faces of young and old, and the great sound of swing music.
 
Can't dance? No problem! a free dance lesson is offered from 12:00 Noon - 12:30 - if you're like me, you'll appreciate the talents of those who can dance even more after taking a lesson! By Noon, the crowd had more than tripled in size, the dancers were wound up and even more amazing.
