hiking: Don't you just hate it when.... - 03/11/15 12:38 AM
Don't you just hate it when....
........ you wake at 4:45 AM, ready to start the busy day....and then computer "issues" (reboots, non-responses, forced installation of 25 new updates (!)) keeps you from starting work until 7:40???
That's how this day began.
Looking at the bright side, while waiting for the computer to close down, re-boot, finish messing around I: gave myself a home facial, cleaned up the kitchen, took recycling and composting down to the bins, got the laundry washed and in the dryer.
And then, I looked at pictures from Sunday afternoon's walk in the Marin Headlands and all … (31 comments)

hiking: Our adventure continues, in Schwaz Austria - 09/02/14 06:44 AM
As our hiking vacation in the Swiss Alps drew to a close, we headed off to the small town of Schwaz, Austria for our next adventure. We discovered this town on our last trip to the Alps 6 years ago, when we had quite an adventure getting to Kellerjoch Hutte in a sudden, violent storm. When we left we said we wanted to go back, so this was our chance.
However, weather didn't cooperate--too much rain and fog, and we are properly wary of changing condition in the Alps after our last mis-adventure. So, when we got off a bus half … (11 comments)

hiking: Vacation Adventure Continues - More Switzerland - 08/29/14 11:49 PM
Our Swiss adventures continue. Yesterday we left Riffelberg, high in the Alps and hiked down to Zermatt where we're spending two more days. How fun it is to put our suitcases on the train and pick them up at the end of the day, after hiking down off the mountain!
Today's weather kept us from our intended hike, so we enjoyed a lazy morning, a hike up a l-o-o-n-g staircase (puts those in SF to shame-LOL!) to a forested trail traversing along the mountainside toward the back of the valley and then back down to Zermatt. A snooze on our balcony, … (18 comments)

hiking: A hike to Indian Rock in Yosemite National Park - 08/07/14 04:28 AM
Real estate is keeping us hopping in the San Francisco Bay Area, but when life is as busy as this, it's vital to find a way to refresh and recharge.

One of my favorite ways to re-energize is to get outdoors and hike.
This week my husband and I took two days, and made a quick trip to the High Sierras in Yosemite National Park. En route to Tuolumne Meadows, we stopped at the Porcupine Creek trailhead on Highway 120, where I enjoyed a 6 or 7 mile round trip hike to Indian Rock.
Come take a look, … (36 comments)

hiking: Living and working in the San Francisco area-fantastic weather - 07/09/12 03:49 AM
Wondering why we live and work in San Francisco (headquarters to Twitter, Yelp! and other high tech firms)? Or the Silicon Valley (home to Facebook, Google, Apple and others)?
It's costly to live here. Our houses are often small and close together. We work hard in a fast-paced environment.
One reason: our fantastic weather!
This week, while much of the country has been suffering with unbearable heat, we have been out about about, enjoying our beautiful surroundings. Our hike yesterday in San Mateo County at Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve started high on the ridge that separates … (13 comments)

hiking: Why living in the SF area is so great - Reason #1 - 01/08/12 04:39 PM
Why Living in the San Francisco area in 2012 is so great - Reason #1
#1 - We have miles of hiking trails, and the ability to enjoy them 12 months of the year!
These photos were taken on January 7, hard as that may be to believe. Shirtsleeves were the order of the day in Marin County, CA. Muir Beach is a little over an hour's drive north from San Carlos, and about 40 minutes from San Francisco.
Starting our hike at Muir Beach, we walked past the Pelican Inn, along the Redwood Creek Trail, up the … (12 comments)

hiking: Wordless Wednesday - 01/11/11 04:24 PM
Wordless Wednesday -- well, almost!

Yesterday morning Gene and I took our early morning hike to start the day as we try to do most Tuesdays. Edgewood County Park, in the hills behind Redwood City CA, is about a 3 minute drive from our house in San Carlos CA. Starting in the dark, at 6:00 AM, with headlamps shining, we hiked up to the top of the hill for some pre-dawn beauty. By 7:15, when we returned to the car, we were happy, relaxed, nicely exercised---and HUNGRY! By 8:00 we were warm, fed, dressed and at our computers, coffee … (27 comments)

hiking: A Realtor's "Afternoon Off" in San Francisco, California - 03/30/10 03:35 AM
Sunday afternoon I enjoyed "time off" doing one of my favorite activities--hiking through various neighborhoods in San Francisco, up and down staircases, enjoying the vistas and natural beauty, and appreciating the loveliness of the City. An early dinner at one of the many neighborhood restaurants capped off our afternoon nicely! We incorporated exercise with business by planning our route to take in 8 open houses of condos in our favorite neighborhoods, which made us keep up our pace to fit them all in in a 3-hour window. (Only a Realtor would do that, right?) Next time I'll take photos of each … (9 comments)

hiking: A hike on Montara Mountain, San Mateo County, CA - 03/24/10 04:06 PM
Last Sunday my favorite hiking buddy (my husband, Gene) and I broke away from the busyness of life and real estate to enjoy a fast-paced hike from San Pedro Valley Park in Pacifica to the top of nearby Montara Mountain. A scenic drive of about 30 minutes lead us from downtown San Carlos, up beautiful Interstate 280, to Highway One along the coast, and then to the park. This hike, roughly 10 miles in length, gains perhaps 1,000 ft. While the trail is steep, the beauty of the blooming wildflowers, flowering trees and shrubs, views of the Pacific Ocean, and the … (6 comments)

hiking: Peninsula Living: A hike to Point Bonita Lighthouse - 03/17/10 03:47 AM
Peninsula Living: A hike to Point Bonita Lighthouse, Marin County, California Last Sunday I cleared the calendar so my husband and I could take a needed day of R&R and enjoy the gorgeous spring weather.A 45-minute drive took us from San Mateo County, through San Francisco, and across the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin County. We parked and began our hiking day heading up into the Marin Headlands, along a ridge, and down to Rodeo Valley and out to Point Bonita Lighthouse. Because of the remote, somewhat hazardous location, the lighthouse is open for tours only a few short hours on … (11 comments)

hiking: Speechless Sundays: A Recent Hike in Marin County, Califonira - 03/14/10 01:24 AM
The last week in February my husband and I took a few days of R&R and indulged in one of our favorite activities, hiking in the gorgeous hills of the San Francisco Bay area. These snapshots were taken on the slopes of Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, just across the Golden Gate bridge from San Francisco. We're heading back today for another day in the sun and check out the progress of the wildflowers, expecting to see many in bloom. Wishing you a fantastic day, too!

hiking: You Can Look, But You Better Not Touch ----- - 10/18/09 04:10 PM

Poison oak brings beautiful color to our northern California coastal range mountains. Who says California doesn't have changing foliage? Just a snap from my Blackberry today while out on a short hike.

hiking: What refreshes your soul so you can charge ahead? - 10/07/09 04:32 AM
Last week my husband and I escaped for 3 days to the Sierras for a much-needed break, and came back energized, happy and raring to go. This is what works for us. What's your secret?

hiking: Exploring CreekSide Park in Mountain View, CA - 05/12/09 01:54 AM
My favourite thing to do is to walk and hike in the beautiful parks surrounding me. I have discovered another amazing park that is great for the whole family. It includes a children's playground and trails just waiting to be explored. Have a look at the video I took of Creekside Park in Mountain View .
This park is beside a property I have up For Sale, 181 Ada Ave.  www.181AdaAvenue42.com
