parks: San Mateo County Parks Open Once Again - 05/15/20 10:20 PM
Our abundant open space preserves and park lands are a huge attraction to living on the San Francisco Peninsula. It's not hard to realize how happy hundreds, if not thousands, of residents were when parks were opened again last week, on May 4, -- with precautions.
One of the wisest choices park administrators made was to designate some of the narrow hiking trails, where keeping 6' distance isn't feasible, as one-way.
On Thursday I had real estate business to attend to in San Mateo County, so took advantage while I was there to get my exercise by stopping by Huddart County Park, in the … (18 comments)

parks: The Romance of San Francisco - 08/31/16 01:27 PM
San Francisco is a destination city for many vacationers from around the world. It's popular with conventioneers and sports enthusiasts.
It's a dream city for many residents and would-be residents, too.
For many, the romance begins with their first view of the Golden Gate Bridge and The City. Did you know that a home (condo or single-family home) with views of the Golden Gate Bridge can carry a premium price tag of $100,000-$500,000 or more than a similar home with no bridge view? The view never gets boring, and isn't the same two days in a row - the fog swirls in, the … (17 comments)

parks: Visiting Mountain Lake Park, San Francisco - 06/06/15 12:09 AM
Located just inside the southern edge of The Presidio you'll find Mountain Lake and adjacent Mountain Lake Park.
This was the destination for our urban hike at the end of the afternoon yesterday, a beautiful walk of about 3 miles from Van Ness Avenue, along the crest of Pacific Heights to the eastern edge of the Presidio, past the mansions of Presidio Heights and the lovely Juius Kahn Playground and the Presidio Golf Course.
Mountain Lake Trail meanders along the shoreline of the lake, with playgrounds, picnic areas, dog play area and a Par Course off to the southern side.
Mountain Lake … (8 comments)

parks: 5 Reasons I Love Living in San Francisco - 06/04/15 01:29 AM
San Francisco is a world-class city, perched at the tip of a Peninsula, with numerous hills sandwiched in between the water's edge. There are many reasons I love living here, but the 5 that I'll mention today are:
1) We have cultural diversity - this is a wonderful area in which to learn about others, share one's  own traditions, and enjoy the parades and celebrations that abound, whether it's Chinese New Year, Vietnamese New Year, the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival, St. Patrick's Day, and Gay Pride, to name a few.
Coming up soon is the annual North Beach Festival with its Italian flair, … (38 comments)

parks: Hidden Treasures in San Francisco - 05/06/15 10:54 PM
San Francisco is known world over for the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and cable cars clanging up and down hills. There's world-class shopping to be had around Union Square, 5-star dining, and Fisherman's Wharf, too. Museums of all sorts are spread across the city, and the 2014 World Series champs, the San Francisco Giants, make their home here.
What many people don't know are the many hidden treats tucked away in our neighborhoods, waiting to be discovered as you explore the city.
We have numerous public pathways. Some of these pathways, like Cottage Row and Macondray Lane run a block or two between … (10 comments)

parks: Every Day Should Be Earth Day - 04/23/15 02:11 PM
Perhaps it is because yesterday was the official Earth Day 2015, but I found myself thinking a lot today about our earth, and in particular our precious lands here in the San Francisco Bay Area.
One of the benefits of living and working in the Silicon Valley, in San Mateo County and in San Francisco is our abundant open space right in our own back yards. We have County parks, Open Space Preserves and State Parks and beaches to enjoy.
When you cross the Golden Gate Bridge into neighboring Marin County, the wild lands continue.
Nowhere is it better appreciated than at the … (8 comments)

parks: San Francisco's Kite Hill - a secret in plain sight - 07/14/14 11:05 AM
San Francisco has numerous parks and open spaces - over 220 of them - and while some are large and well known (think Golden Gate Park, Dolores Park, Alamo Square, Twin Peaks) some are barely known even to residents living close by.
One often overlooked park is a small park in the central part of town, one with lovely views - Kite Hill.

One winter day (one of the few rainy days we experienced this last winter) my husband and I decided to explore the Eureka Valley area of town. Not far from the Castro, just below Twin Peaks and … (3 comments)
