Holiday Season--People Still Looking for Homes in Sunnyvale CA
Not long ago I helped our last tenants find a home to buy. They moved out of this nice two-bedroom townhouse in Sunnyvale California last month, and we were concerned that with the holidays upon us the rental market might be slow. However, just days before Thanksgiving a couple who are renting an apartment not far away came to take a look, and knew it would be a great place for them to call home. And we're happy because we think they'll be wonderful tenants, which our background check substantiates. They'll be … (6 comments)

Mystery Photo Contest: where will you find these? Our mystery photo game takes a twist this month, hopefully one you will like! This month you have TWO questions to answer about the photos below, which adorn the exterior of a civic building on the mid-Peninsula.
On what type of building are these located? Name the particular building AND the town in which the building is located.

silicon valley: Celebrating the Long Summer Evenings - 06/23/10 06:20 AM
Yesterday my husband and I took advantage of the long hours of daylight by engaging in one of our favorite activities: hiking, this time at Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. Ending our work day around 5:00 PM, a 20-minute drive had us at the trailhead in Portola Valley, where we headed up Hammes Gulch Trail, across the undulating Lost Trail, and down Razorback Ridge trail and eventually back to our car. View from Hammes Gulch Trail, looking down to Stanford University and Palo Alto, CA Trail shot heading up Hammes Gulch Trail. At the trail junction at the end of Lost … (12 comments)

silicon valley: House keys ready for my 1st time home buyers in the Silicon Valley, CA - 06/22/10 12:54 PM
Today is one of those delightful days--it's almost time to hand the house keys over to first-time home buyers. Two years ago there would have been no way, on their budget, for them to have purchased a single-family home--they definitely would have been looking at a condo or possibly a townhouse. Ours is a high-cost area, and $500,000 or so doesn't go far in the housing market. Today, with about a 14% decrease in entry level home prices, we were able to get them into a lovely 3-bedroom, 2-bath home in the heart of Silicon Valley, with a family room, updated … (15 comments)

silicon valley: Peninsula Living: Thinking About Buying in San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley? - 01/23/10 10:46 AM
Thinking about buying in San Mateo County or the Silicon Valley?
Our colleague, Elaine Stroman of Continental Home Loans in Brooklyn, NY, has graciously allowed me to share her blog post, below.
While she's across the country in New York, this information pertains to San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley as well.
When talking with potential buyers, I ask why they want to buy a place. If they feel secure in their jobs or financial position, want to set down roots and become part of a community, and plan to live in the home for 5 or more years, today's … (0 comments)

silicon valley: Is the Silicon Valley ready for a rebound? - 04/20/09 02:29 PM
Yesterday as I was out running, I thought about two reports I read last Friday in the San Jose Mercury.
The first was about Rosetta Stone's strong public debut on the New York Stock Exchange. Shares surged close to 40 percent on Thursday. It was the second IPO of the week. (Rosetta Stone provides language learning software in a multitude of languages.)
The other, an article entitled, "4th Month is a Row: Valley Home Sales Ahead of a Year Ago" by Sue McAllister ponders if the housing market in Silicon Valley has reach a bottom. REO's routinely generate multiple offers, with sales … (0 comments)
