staircases: Errand Running in San Francisco - not so mundane - 05/13/16 02:32 AM
Multi-tasking has taken a bum rap lately, but when I combine exercise, time with my husband, and running an errand like going to Safeway for some staples, I think multi-tasking is just great.
When living in San Francisco, even a mundane task like grocery shopping turns into something interesting. Last night's walk from Pacific Heights, down through Cow Hollow and to the Marina turned into an art walk.
This tiled staircase at a private house in Pacific Heights was done by Colette Crutcher, one of the two artists who created the famous public staircases on Moraga and on Kirkland streets.
The Marina Safeway itself … (23 comments)

staircases: Is there a danger to living where you do? - 09/06/15 11:25 AM
How do you know it's time for some body work?  (I'm not talking about dents in the car!) For me, it's when my knees cry out, telling me I've done too many stairs in one week!
On Monday evening, we hiked down and up staircases to Marshall Beach in San Francisco.
On Tuesday evening, a hike at Windy Hill on the Peninsula (no stairs to speak of)
Wednesday--a bare 30 minute walk running errands--no stairs!
Thursday evening's City hike took us up and down numerous staircases in Lafayette Park, Alta Plaza, and then these, the Baker Street Stairs - 201 of them!

Coming up soon is the annual North Beach Festival with its Italian flair, … (38 comments)

staircases: Surprise on a San Francisco staircase - 03/30/14 01:26 AM
Walking in San Francisco is a delight--you never quite know what surprises will be in store for you.
Yesterday I was walking in the Eureka Valley - Noe Valley area, enjoying the challenge of ascending various long staircases. One beautiful staircase replaced two blocks of 22nd Street, blocks too steep for cars to maneuver. As I approached the top I spied:
Last week I wrote a post about Little Free Libraries and talked about one I spotted along Jackson Street in the Pacific Heights area of town. Now I find another one. I think I've found a theme for my … (16 comments)
