The 2019 line-up for the ever popular Stern Grove Festival has been announced. Thanks to the generosity of Rosalie Stern, who purchased the grove in 1931 and gave it to the City to honor her late husband, Sigmund Stern, the public has been enjoying music since 1938.
Every Sunday afternoon, at 2:00PM, beginning Sunday, June 16 through August 18, treat yourself to a FREE outdoor concert, and enjoy these 2019 performances:
June 16     Digable Planets, Bang Data
June 23     Los Van Van, Banda Sin Nombre
June 30     Galactic, Baby & the Luvies
July 7        San Francisco Symphony

stern grove: Stern Grove summer festival in full swing in San Francisco - 07/19/17 04:36 PM
Some people might say summer in San Francisco means fog and chilly winds, but to others summer in San Francisco means FREE Sunday afternoon concerts in Stern Grove.
2017 marks the 80th year when residents and visitors alike enjoy a wide variety of music in the majestic natural amphitheater surrounded by huge eucalyptus, redwood and fir trees. Located in the western side of the City, Stern Grove at the corner of Sloat Boulevard and 19th Avenue, near the West Portal and Sunset neighborhoods, not far from the San Francisco Zoo.
In 2017, concerts started in June and run through August 27. Next up:

Summertime in San Francisco - not the hot beach weather many people associate with summer, our "Cool Gray City of Love" celebrates summer with its own special activities.
One of the most revered activities is the Stern Grove Festival, celebrating its 78th season this year. Gifted to the City of San Francisco by Rosalie M. Stern in 1931 and named to honor her husband, Sigmund, Mrs. Stern declared the grove was to be preserved as a park offering free music, dance, and theater performances for the enjoyment of the public. This year the annual Halloween family event organized by the City of San Francisco's Recreation and Parks Department will be held at Sigmund Stern Grove, Sloat Boulevard at 19th Avenue, on October 25, 2013 from 3:00 to 9:00 PM. Cost for a ticket is $8.00.

Have a scary good time at the haunted house, go for a hay ride, enjoy arts and craft, and the thrill of carnival rides. Dress in your Halloween costume and join the costume parade!

At a spot overlooking Lake Merced, in San Francisco, we chanced across this statue of King Carlos III of Spain, dedicated by King Juan Carlos I, in the 1970s. A very regal looking king, but he didn't get any respect from the seagull!
This afternoon's hike in San Francisco took us through a neighborhood near the western edge of the City, around Lake Merced, through Pine Lake Park and Stern Grove, and to the West Portal neighborhood where we "discovered" the Peruvian restaurant, Fresca! (Worth a trip all … (23 comments)
