homegain: HomeGain, Zillow and Now Cyberhomes- Whose tool is more accurate? - 01/17/09 06:26 AM
A small debate is raging over on the front steps . Representatives from Zillow and Cyberhomes are arguing over whose instant home valuation tool is the most accurate.
Having been alerted to this debate by checking out the Sellsius blog on the topic, I had to jump in.
So, whose tool is the most accurate - Zillow or Cyberhomes? That question misses the point. The answer is neither Zillow nor Cyberhomes nor HomeGain.
HomeGain, the company that pioneered the concept of the instant home valuation tool takes the view that ONLY A PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCED REALTOR or a professional appraiser can provide a true … (0 comments)

homegain: HomeGain And Zillow In NY Times - 01/16/09 05:00 PM
My friend Spencer Rascoff of Zillow and I  recently discussed HomeGain and Zillow.  I noted that HomeGain, not Zillow, pioneered the web based instant home valuation, despite the myth making of the Zillowites.
Spencer chided me "After all, if Homegain pioneered AVMs, then how come no one thinks of them when they think of home valuations?"
Granted Zillow, with it high octane 24/7 media engine constantly spitting out Zestimtes, Zindexes and press releases containing valuations of homes that are not and never will be for sale like the white house, IS the better known of the two.
However, in the past month … (5 comments)

homegain: Does Print Still Work? - 01/16/09 06:08 AM
There has been a lot of talk lately how many real estate professionals are eschewing print in favor of online media. Susie Hale of  Frog Pond recently interviewed Tom Kunz President and CEO of Century 21 who signalled his move away from print media towards online interactive media.
Is this the wave of the future? Is print media dead? Not so fast......
Matt Fagioli, organizer of ReTech South posted on the HomeGain Real Estate Blog that the bulk of people find out about RETech South, a highly evolved web 2.0 conference, through, GASP, print media!

homegain: HomeGain vs Zillow - What's the Difference? - 01/13/09 12:06 AM
I was on a panel at Inman Connect last week and the topic of what HomGain can do for Realtors came up.
One thing that I mentioned was that HomeGain features Realtors, not Advertisers on our site.
Whenever HomeGain, the company that pioneered the instant homevaluation concept six years before Zillow, features a Realtor we do so in an advertising free environment.
Thus, a Realtor is the show, not a weighwatchers advertisment, a White House Zestimate (see below) or worse a competing broker's ad.
We send millions of HomeGain visitors a month to our agents on our buyerlink program where THEY display … (8 comments)

homegain: Zillow and HomeGain in Charlotte Observer - 01/10/09 11:39 PM
I was interviewed by the Charlotte Observer for an article that appears on the front page of today's Sunday Business section!
The article is entitled  "Clicking on your Home's True Worth -Web Tools Popular, But Can't Replace Appraisal"
I wished it had read -Can't Replace Realtors, but I was happy that the theme of the article was that Realtors are essential not just to the pricing of homes, but for the selling them as well.
I went to great pains to highlight that HomeGain features real estate professionals, not advertisers on our site and that HomeGain itself does not view its home … (3 comments)

homegain: Are you using what you've got? - 01/06/09 10:41 AM
Are you using what you've got or still searching for more tool, avenues of marketing etc?
Linda sagely advises:
"Upon review, I discovered that I already have all the tools needed for a very successful 2009.  I have more than enough websites and blogs and I am registered and active on social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. I can boast of all kinds of cool software and I have CD’s, books, and a del.icio.us account full of great links.  My file drawers are crammed with ideas that I’ve picked up at conferences and conventions."

homegain: Can't Sell Your Home -Improve it! - 01/03/09 12:22 PM
Greg Swan over on the bloodhound blog wrote a sage post entitled
If selling is not a viable option, you need to fall in love with your house all over again The jist is make the most of it! If you aren't able to sell your home now, or if its not economically feasible to do so, chances are you are staying put.
Economists call this situation, by the way, "downside sticky". Just think by not putting your home on the market you will be helping the situation by not adding to the glut of homes for sale.

homegain: Google Updates Page Rankings - HomeGain AgentView Blogs Score high! - 12/31/08 01:22 AM
Looks like yesterday Google updated its page rankings yesterday. Its been quite some time since they have provided an update.
When the new page ranks are made I always check to see how HomeGain does.
The HomeGain home page has remained at a 7 and the HomeGain Real Estate Blog at a 6.
What is astounding however was that some of the individual HomeGain AgentView Blogs were not only awarded page ranks but some received 3's and even 4's!!
In the past couple of months many of the HomeGain AgentView blogs have been hitting the front page of google for the key … (5 comments)

homegain: HomeGain vs. Zillow - Famous TV Homes - 12/27/08 12:47 PM
Just for fun I was comparing the with the "famous TV homes" zestimates on Zillow's site. HomeGain home values
On HomeGain's site, the company that pioneered the web-based instant home valuation tool, (no, it wasn't Zillow!) you can look up the same homes.
Not surprisingly, the values on HomeGain and Zillow are about the same.
Two big differences between the sites are that the HomeGain site is advertising free, while Zillow's is littered with ads and take quite a bit longer to load.
In about 2200 zip codes, HomeGain also features a local real estate agent who can provide a customized comparative market analysis. … (4 comments)

homegain: What if the IRS Eliminated the Mortgage Interest Tax Deduction? - 12/23/08 01:40 AM
Eliminate the mortgage interest tax deduction??? An unthinkable proposition! Eliminating the deduction would deter home ownership and in the current envrionment accelerate the rate of foreclosures.
The mortgage interest deduction is generally considered untouchable among law makers.
What, however, might be some positive benefits of eliminating the mortgage interest tax deduction?
In such an event, how would you react as a Realtor to protect you business?
I am neither advocating that the mortgage interest deduction be repealed, nor petitioning any government officials to do. However, if forced to think about it, I can think of at least three or four positive short term and long term benefits.
