coalers: Coalers Advance to State

For the first time in school history, the Coal City Coalers are heading to the state baseball finals! The Coalers avenged a football playoff loss to Addison Driscoll with a crushing 8-4 victory on Monday afternoon at Benedictine University in Lisle. The Coalers will be playing Stanford Olympia at 4:00 this Friday at Silver Cross field in Joliet, home of the Jackhammers. Should they win they will battle the following evening for the state championship...if they fall- they will play the afternoon game for third place.

Saturday, November 17th the Coal City Coalers football squad (and most of the town) will be heading north to take on the Driscoll Catholic Highlanders of Addison in semi-final action. This marks the 3rd time in 4 years that the Coalers have gone to at least the final four!
Unfortunately, the last time Coal City ventured to the semi-finals they fell to none other than Driscoll. Driscoll, a private school with the ability to recruit players from outside 'normal' boundaries has won SIX consecutive state championships.
