The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, as well as celebrating the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, céilithe, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Canada has a birthday on July 1st every year.  Also referred to as Canada Day, this national holiday in Canada is best celebrated with family picnics, barbeques, and fireworks.

Canada Day is always observed on July 1st unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case it is observed the following day.  (Though many people still celebrate on the Sunday).

A long time ago, Canada belonged to Great Britain.  Over time, parts of the country joined together and wanted to form their own government.
