El Burrito JR  Locals call it   “LBJ”

Yes LBJ is its nickname.   We did have a Dairy Queen  and we called it the DDI in Owensboro Kentucky where my Dad taught English at Kentucky Wesleyan College.  As a kid in Kentucky- there was no mexican food till we made it over the TEXAS border to see the relatives in Dallas. I did go to SMU and my parents to TCU. Little did I know then, that  LBJ would come to mean a Burrito.
Now I need … (0 comments)

kentucky: I wrote a comment and it was viewed as possible spam - 10/29/07 08:09 PM
wow I commented on some comments on my blog and it looked like spam to active rain.
I wrote a very impassioned comment on Global Warming - from a series of comments on my own blog.
I hope it returns and gets viewed. I don't know all the ins and outs of commenting or commenting on the blogs.
I learn as I go. I think its funny that I may have spammed myself out of ignorance. My 27 year old son says I spam all the time when I send an email to more than one person. If it were not for him I … (8 comments)

kentucky: California Fire Storm Six degrees of closeness - 10/24/07 03:22 AM
We are surrounded in fires and we are safe. Everyone I know living here is affected by this right now.
Palos Verdes is safe. Redondo Beach where I live is safe and is where people are coming to be with family.
This is a 5 billion dollar disaster for California.
Six degrees of closeness. We are a close community. Whenever the earthquakes hit we check our neighbors right away. People out there need to know...California is full of America. Full of people who came here to live from somewhere else. I am from Kentucky, Texas, and Florida. I am not sure what order … (0 comments)

kentucky: Children and books are the Holy Grail of being timeless - 09/30/07 11:27 PM
children and books are the gift to staying young. When I read aloud to my children and my mom did to me. I kept up a tradition unknown in its source. I read aloud and they read aloud now to their children. So many good books to parents on that subject. I learned to read along with them later...read whatever they read so we could talk about things. I had to promise Hali, my granddaughter, not to read ahead, on Harry Potter. I became a Potter junkie.
I read "Sarah Plain and tall" before it was a movie and become famous. … (2 comments)

kentucky: "If we can surf together, we can live together" - 08/28/07 02:51 AM
Quote above is from La Times. The full quote is related to Dorian Paskowitz an American Surfer who took surfing to Israel in the 1950"s.  His latest idea worked. To take donated surfboards to bring Israelis and Palestinians together.
"But for today we are brothers among our enemies, friends among foes. If we can surf together, we can live together.
He took 12 donated surfboards to the Palestinian training center in the Gaza Strip.
Surfing.
As a Texas-Kentucky girl observe surfing in my husbands life. It is the healing experience in the ocean: the sky full of birds, clouds, and sunrises reflecting on … (6 comments)

kentucky: goofy foot - 08/22/07 02:53 AM
Beach people know that goofy foot is a surf term. I have a surfer family, it started with my husband in Hermosa Beach.
He taught our sons to surf. Now years later he has taught 3 grandaughters his love of the water.
After they were swimming in the pool he took them out to the ocean and taught them to body surf, now they are on boogie boards in Redondo Beach.
Its fun to watch for me. I grew up in Texas and Kentucky. I was climbing trees.
