2009 Schaumburg Township Assessment Information (Due and payable in 2010) This summer the Cook County Board passed new assessment levels on the entire county.  Residential went from 16% to 10%; Commercial from 38% to 25%; and Industrial from 36% to 25%.  Every property in Cook county will receive an assessment notice this year regarding the new assessment levels.  Schaumburg Township should expect to received the new assessment information by late 2009.When you receive your new assessment, please review it and if you do not think it is fair or in error contact the Assessor to file an appeal.Don't forget that we … (2 comments)

Well is this good news?  We shall see.  Don't forget to look for this assessment change in your mailbox coming soon.  Don't forget that every Illinois homeowner has the right to protest their taxes if they feel they are being overvalued and over taxed. Just wanted to be sure that you were informed as the county doesn't seem to be getting the word out like it should.  This will effect all homeowners in Cook County!

Good news for seniors in Schaumburg Township and Cook County!  
Senior Freeze Beginning in the tax year 2008, the total household gross income for the Senior Freeze increased to $55,000.  Also, the Senior Exemption amount will increase from $3500 to $4000 which translates to an approximate savings of $200.  Both of these changes are new State Statutes that were passed in 2008.  These changes will be reflected on the 2nd installment of your 2009 tax bill.

This is a typical story of the little guy that is getting screwed by the giant behemoth called Cook County Illinois! 

The background behind this ‘punch to the pocket book’ is as follows:  Single lady with a very nice 2story townhouse around 1260 square feet with 2BR 2.5BA’s and a 1 car attached garage.  There are many great areas all thruout Schaumburg just like this and unfortuntely lots of people are handing over their hard earned money year after year.

This is another post from a tax protest in Barrington which is also in Lake County.  Basically states that the appeal must be used until the next quadrenial assessment.
These guys are tricky if you let them get away with it.  Only be sure to pay your fair share!

While the downturn in the real estate market has possibly taken a chunk out of your home’s value, it is unlikely that your tax assessment has gone down. During the boom, as your home gained in value, it made sense that your assessment would increase.  Prices have flat lined or lowered in most areas so it doesn’t make sense anymore that your taxes should only go upwards.  But what’s a homeowner do to?  Well don’t expect the assessor to give you any help!
