Workers have begun construction on two long awaited projects in Shelby Township, Michigan. One is to rebuild the intersection at 24 Mile Road and Van Dyke; the other will be two pedestrian bridges over the M53 freeway. The bridges will connect sidewalks on either side of 21 Mile Road and 22 Mile Road. Walkers and bicyclists will be able to cross over the freeway safely. Currently there is no sidewalk over the freeway and pedestrians have been injured crossing the treacherous road. Decker Drain, in Shelby Township, Michigan has recently been cleaned up. The total cost of the clean-up project was about $220,000. Shelby Township officials contributed $98,661 towards the clean up through Community Block Grants. Work crews cleaned the drain, located near 22 Mile Road and Hayes Roads. The cleaning consisted of removing brush, trees, phragmites and other material. Phragmites are an invasive species of aquatic vegetation that can take over drains, lakes and wetlands and can choke out valuable plant life.
