February brings a host of events and activities on the Chequamegon Bay mainland:
On February 2 & 3, the Bayfield Chamber presents the 13th Annual Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race.  The race location will start and finish at the Echo Valley gravel pit, about fifteen miles north of Bayfield, on Highway 13.  Visit for details.
February 9th is the "Blue Moon Ball" at the Bayfield Lakeside Pavillion, with music provided by the Big Woods Band.  Dress will be vintage tuxedos and prom attire.  Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.  Information is available from the Bayfield Chamber, at 715-779-3335.

chequamegon: Wisconsin's First Conference on Business Sustainability to be Held in Ashland, Wisconsin, April 24-26 - 01/08/08 09:43 AM
The Alliance for Sustainability will be sponsoring the first annual Conference on Business Sustainability, in Ashland, Wisconsin this April.
The goal of this first conference will be to attract business leaders from across the State of Wisconsin with an interest in promoting and maintaining sustainable business development.
The mission statement of the Alliance "promotes sustainable development in the Chequamegon region of Northwest Wisconsin".  Partners of the Alliance include EnergyStar, the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance, Wisconsin Public Radio and the United States Green Building Council.

chequamegon: Madeline Island Ice Road Prospects Growing Dim With Warm Winter Weather Predicted in January - 01/05/08 03:44 AM
The prospect of a nice long ice road season for Madeline Island residents isn't very good this year.  Warm weather has kept the Madeline Island Ferry running and forecasters expect more of the same. 

Madeline Island residents and visitors are watching the weather.  The ten-day LaPointe forecast through the middle of January calls for daytime temperatures mostly in the mid and upper 30s.  Today, the forecast is for partly sunny skies and a high of around 36.
There's not much, if any, ice in Chequamegon Bay right now, exept for Ashland and part of Washburn harbor.  The ferry passage between Bayfield, Wisconsin and Madeline Island is open water.  And there … (14 comments)
