A Referral From Minneapolis Real Estate Agent Cotty Lowry Shows Why Other Real Estate Professionals Choose Madeline Island Realty
At the beginning of August, I received a phone call from Minneapolis area Realtor Cotty Lowry, inquiring about a Madeline Island property owned by one of his clients.

Cotty Lowry is a well-known and much respected Realtor in the Twin Cities area who specializes in the south Minneapolis area.  He enjoyed a stellar career as a residential Realtor with Coldwell Banker Burnet, becoming one of the top 40 sales associates at that firm in 2002.  Cotty is now a partner and owner with the Minneapolis … (0 comments)

Professionals Share Their Knowledge - Amateurs Hoard What Little They Know
A couple days ago, I was sitting in my Madeline Island real estate office at the computer when I noticed that one of my area competitors was standing outside our building, staring at our property listing sheets on display.  She spent quite a long time there and in particular it looked like she was gazing at our property flyers (with multiple large color photos).
I waited quite awhile, then stuck my head out the door and asked if I could help her.  She walked into the office and … (1 comments)

real estate: The Bayfield, Wisconsin Real Estate Market is very Different from the Madeline Island Market - 09/30/10 05:11 PM
The Bayfield, Wisconsin Real Estate Market is very Different from the Madeline Island Market
Our company, Madeline Island Realty, has listed and sold properties in Bayfield, Wisconsin (which Islanders refer to as "across the pond") in the past.  Bayfield is a wonderfully charming town with it's own history and beauty, very different in some ways from that on Madeline Island.
But it's also a very different real estate market in Bayfield this year.  Some properties are moving, many others are not.  And the Bayfield buyer is distinctly different from the buyer who is searching for property on Madeline Island.
I … (3 comments)

The Top Ten Real Estate Mistakes Made by Buyers When Searching for Property on Madeline Island
Follow these guidelines and save yourself time, frustration, maybe even money:
1) Do your homework before you walk into a real estate office.  It's a good idea to Google the name of an agent before you begin working with that individual.  Ask yourself what kind of background and industry experience that agent has.  Is that agent a full-time real estate professional or are they a "seasonal" (part-time) agent who may not even write an offer or show a property during five or six months of the year?
2) Make an appointment … (4 comments)

real estate: Has Your Agent Discovered Google Yet? - 08/08/10 11:03 AM
A customer came into our Madeline Island office late in the afternoon today, looking for information on a listing.  He and his wife had been walking up and down Main Street and they had discovered that we were apparently the only Madeline Island real estate office open on a Sunday afternoon.
The fellow had a question about a waterfront listing (listed with a competitor) and asked us the price.  They didn't remember the name of the company on the "For Sale" sign, but they did jot down the fire number (numerical street address).
I searched through the local "Land & Homes Real Estate Guide", a free tabloid piece that you'll find in the supermarket … (4 comments)

real estate: Garbage in, Garbage out - Slow Broadband in the North Country - 07/31/10 06:32 AM
Broadband consumers have forgotten the old adage, "garbage in, garbage out".
In a world of fast processors and Web-optimized browsers, there is an air of unreality about "wireless broadband".  In rural and low population density areas, it's often more like worthless broadband.
Obviously, the tasks you perform online will only crank as fast as your wireless broadband signal allows.  When your wireless signal is weak or nonexistent, you may not be able to download files & programs, or upload information to the Web, without difficulty.
Advertised signal speeds and upload speeds are wildly exaggerated.  It seems the wireless business is its own little kingdom where companies are … (2 comments)

real estate: Previsite Tells You Where your Listing Views are Coming From - 07/24/10 05:49 PM
If you use Previsite virtual tours, you've probably seen this already.
Previsite sends us weekly tracking reports that tell us how many views our virtual tours have received and where they come from.

The statistics include source tracking, both direct visitors to our Previsite virtual tours and referrals from other sites such as ActiveRain and RealBird.
Naturally, I like being able to quote hits and page views by property to my listing clients.  At present, I believe Madeline Island Realty is the only LaPointe, Wisconsin real estate firm that makes this information available to their sellers.
