quinte real estate: Stockdale Ontario - 02/24/12 05:20 AM

The village of Stockdale is not very big, if you blink and miss the road sign you probably wouldn't know you are in a village at all. It consists of a few houses, a few farms and an an old mill.

Stockdale is between the town of Wooler and Frankford on Hastings County Road 5.

I drive through Stockdale quite a bit as Stockdale Road is a pretty nifty shortcut if you want to get from Trenton to Frankford or Stirling. There hardly ever is any traffic on Stockdale Road, and the only time I have ever been inconvenienced … (6 comments)

quinte real estate: Pinterest, Google+ and Facebook, Oh My. - 02/23/12 02:24 AM
I'm sure that by now most of you are aware of the new social network called Pinterest . It has suddenly appeared on the social network landscape seemingly out of nowhere. There was very little fanfare building up to its launch, it was just there. Pinterest combines the words "pin" and "interest"
Pinterest is based around photography. From what I understand (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) it's a site where people can post photographs of their interests with a brief description and not much else. People can then "like" the photographs and leave a brief comment. It's a … (3 comments)

quinte real estate: Snow Day in Trenton. - 02/18/12 03:07 AM
This has been a very mild winter so far, in the Quinte area we haven't had very much snow or terribly cold weather at all. While I haven't enjoyed the winter, I must say I have disliked it much less than other winters. I have only had to shovel the driveway twice so far.

It was actually pretty nice to wake up this morning and see some fresh snow blanketing the landscape.
It was very pretty.
The schoolkids might be a little sad, if this had been a weekday, it probably would have been a snowday and the school … (11 comments)

quinte real estate: Superbowl Sunday in Trenton Ontario - 02/05/12 11:19 AM
It's Superbowl Sunday in Trenton, Ontario, and I was surprised to learn that it happens to be Superbowl Sunday all over North America as well. What a happy coincidence.
I have never watched an entire football game, the sport never quite caught my fancy. In my opinion the games seem so long, and there's always a thousand other things I could be doing on a Sunday afternoon. I know I'm not alone, the stores seem to be busy and there are a good number of people out and about doing things such as washing their cars, doing their laundry, or eating out … (8 comments)

quinte real estate: Some Advice for Brand New Real Estate Agents - 01/31/12 07:44 AM
I guess I'm not a brand new real estate agent any more, I've moved up into the category of being a fairly new agent, I've been doing this for over three years now. I suppose that's quite a bit longer than most people who get their license. A lot of people give up. It is an intimidating prospect to be entirely dependant upon oneself to create enough business on your own to earn a paycheque.
Another intimidating prospect is learning all the paperwork so that deals are done properly and we don't screw something up. We are talking about large amounts of … (12 comments)

A friend of mine just posted this video on my facebook page, so I thought I would share it. I'm not a big fan of teasing dogs, but this is rather funny and clever. I bet it gets a laugh out of you.
Can I get an awwwwwwwwww?

quinte real estate: 3 Credits Down, 21 More to Go - 01/27/12 06:29 AM
It's pretty easy to get jaded about our experiences at work. A lot of people tend to treat the education that we need to acquire to perform our jobs with a bit of disdain. I have heard people say "It doesn't work like that in the real world" or "you have to throw out everything you learned in school". There's dozens of popular sentiments that generally imply that education is not terribly useful when it comes to the actual jobs we have to perform.
I understand why people say these things because no amount of education can prepare us for the … (6 comments)

quinte real estate: Zen and the Art of Tow Truck Driving - 01/17/12 04:28 AM
Buddhists have a great way of looking at hurdles that have presented themselves in their lives. They are thankful for them because these hurdles give them an opportunity to practice their patience. In that spirit, I'm very thankful for the huge opportunity I had on Sunday to practice my patience. If I become the sort of person who seems to handle events with equanimity, experiences such as these will have gone a long way to making it so.
I was driving to show a property on the beautiful shores of Rice Lake, and let me tell you, it's much more fun in the … (16 comments)

quinte real estate: Not Everybody is Downsizing. - 01/12/12 08:49 AM
When it comes to real estate, we seem to pay a lot of attention to trends. It makes a lot of sense. Home buyers want to ensure that the home they are buying will retain its value, and what's more valuable than something that's in demand? Trends seem to determine what is in demand and what isn't.
Real estate professionals also keep an eye out for trends. It helps us determine where we should concentrate our efforts. Our paycheques depend on this.
It seems to me that the zeitgeist of this particular real estate era centres around the concepts of downsizing and … (12 comments)

quinte real estate: Cross Marketing for Real Estate Agents. - 01/07/12 07:17 AM
I have spent a lot of time trying to think of innovative ways of marketing myself. Most business people who use social media have become familiar with the term "personal branding". Personal branding makes a lot of sense since most of us are trying to stand out from the crowd, and just riding the coat tails of your brokerage's image  won't cut it any more.
One of the agents in Canada who has taken personal branding to the next level is Active Rain's own Valerie Zinger. She is an Ottawa area agent, but her newest campaign has been very effective, so … (21 comments)

quinte real estate: Our Pale Blue Dot - 12/31/11 05:08 AM
Ah, New Years, that arbitrary line in the sand is upon us. It's the time when one year flows into the next. Some of you will be out celebrating, others will be at home celebrating, some will be asleep, some will be trying to get to sleep, some will be playing World of Warcraft, while many others might not be fully aware of where they are and what they are doing when the clock strikes 12.
However and wherever you may be, have a safe and happy one, and lets all make 2012 a great year.

quinte real estate: 2011 Ending With a Bang - 12/29/11 11:37 AM
I always used to really enjoy the week in between Christmas and New Years. When I was a student it used to be a very peaceful holiday week, and even when I joined the workforce I could always find excuses not to get things done and no one really minded all that much.
2011 has been completely different. This has been the busiest week I have ever experienced in real estate. There seems a big urgency to get a lot of things done before the year ends. I'm busier than that proverbial one-legged man in an arse-kicking contest.
Another agent in … (11 comments)

quinte real estate: Merry Christmas Everybody, Remember What We are Celebrating. - 12/24/11 08:16 AM

Matthew 1:22-25So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son.And he called His name JESUS.

quinte real estate: Revenge of the Frog - 12/22/11 08:42 AM
I'm not sure why I enjoyed this little clip so much, I have watched it a few times and I still laugh at the ending. Perhaps I just enjoy the little fellow getting his moment of revenge. Anyhow, I bet you that this frog could probably beat my high score.

quinte real estate: Some Uses for Left Over Spam. - 12/17/11 09:16 AM
Earlier in the week I wrote a blog post about SPAM.
For those of you who didn't read it and don't feel like following the link provided (and I don't blame you in the least), it was really just a few random facts about this iconic luncheon meat. I became interested in Spam because I had (for reasons unknown even to myself) said I was bringing some to our office Christmas bash. My only real knowledge of this food was from the Monty Python Spam skit, so I thought I'd look into it a little more.
I did discover some pretty … (9 comments)
