quinte real estate: Some Inspiration for a Gloomy Saturday. - 10/15/11 07:31 AM
It has been a rather gloomy Saturday so far, so I have been browsing around on the internet looking for a bit of inspiration. I found a rather newsworthy story that I think will do the trick.
The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon is being held tomorrow. It's an important marathon, it's a qualifier for the Boston Marathon (the granddaddy of all marathons), there's $150,000 worth of prize money up for grabs, and the Olympic commitees of quite a few nations are using this marathon to determine who will be on their national teams in London next summer.
Needless to say, there will … (12 comments)

quinte real estate: Big Crowds Turn out to Watch the Mighty Leafs - 10/13/11 07:31 AM
Seeing N.H.L. players in Trenton isn't really all that big of a deal, there are a few players (past and present) who are from the Quinte area. Seeing an entire N.H.L. team, however, is a huge deal.
Thousands of enthusiastic spectators turned out to watch the Toronto Maple Leafs practice at the C.F.B. Trenton arena. I didn't get a chance to get there myself, but the town was buzzing about this event. There is nothing bigger in small town Canada than hockey, and in this area the Toronto Maple Leafs ARE hockey (to the discerning fan anyway).
The Leafs are off to a … (6 comments)

quinte real estate: The F Word. - 10/07/11 03:59 AM
I realize that we in the Western world can get fatigued by all the pleas for help and aid from organizations that represent the interests of less fortunate people in the developing world. It has even come to the point where some people don't watch the news anymore because "all that negativity affects their inner peace".
I am not a terribly religious person, but Matthew 25: 35 - 40 has always had a certain resonance in my life. It's very simple and I'm sure we are all familiar with the words;
"‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; … (15 comments)

quinte real estate: Toronto Maple Leafs Coming to Trenton - 10/06/11 05:12 AM
This is some very exciting news for the people of Trenton.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be coming to Trenton from October 10th to the 12th. They are going to be holding three open practices at Canadian Forces Base Trenton in the RCAF Flyers arena.
Positioned between the three NHL cities of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, it would be fair to say that Trenton is a town with very divided NHL loyalties, and I would hazard a guess and say that it's a pretty even three way split.
Now this isn't to say that two-thirds of the population aren't too bright and are fairweather … (12 comments)

quinte real estate: Huyck's Point in Prince Edward County - 10/03/11 08:46 AM
Huyck's Point is one of those little treasures in Prince Edward County that isn't very well known to people who don't live in the area.
Prince Edward County has a lot of beautiful waterfront and some very nice beaches (among the finest in the province) such as North Beach and Sandbanks Provincial Park, however, this beach is a little more rugged and very rarely do I ever encounter another soul. It really is off the beaten track.
This is a perfect place to let your dog off the leash and let her splash around in the water. I always see evidence … (7 comments)

quinte real estate: The Last Day of September - Ugh. - 09/30/11 07:03 AM
Many people in Ontario love the Fall season. The air is cooler and crisper, the leaves are now a multitude of colours, there's all kinds of Fall fairs around the province to entertain us, the kids are getting excited for Halloween, Tim Horton's unveils their line of pumpkin donuts and related products, and there are less tourists wandering around the waterfront areas.
I'm not one of those people.
I have never liked pumpkins, pumpkin pie, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin flavoured coffee, or anything having to do with pumpkins. At best, pumpkins are a mediocre fruit. I actually do enjoy a variety of … (15 comments)

quinte real estate: Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2011 - Should Be a Lot of Fun. - 09/26/11 04:51 AM
It's that time of year in Toronto again. Nuit Blanche will soon be upon us. This year it will be bigger and better than ever. It seems to be one of those events that captures people's imaginations and grows in stature every year.
Nuit Blanche is an all night affair that occurs one night a year. Downtown Toronto is transformed into an all night art show. The lights are so bright in certain corners that it seems almost like mid-day (hence the name nuit blanche).
There will be all kinds of performers, ranging from the types who should probably be locked up … (9 comments)

quinte real estate: Buyers, There Is No Such Thing as "The Best Deal". - 09/23/11 07:51 AM
I recently had to stop working with some clients.
I don't want to sound casual or flippant about this, it wasn't a decision I made lightly, but I had had enough. They were a very nice couple, but they had completely lost focus, and I sensed that perhaps they might be better served by working with another agent. They just had started taking up way too much of my time and we didn't seem to be getting any closer to finding them anything.
It all started simply enough. They were looking for a specific type of house in a specific area. … (16 comments)

quinte real estate: Trenton Gets a Roundabout - 09/19/11 04:37 AM
I have always liked roundabouts, they seem to allow traffic to flow a little faster, and you're not stuck waiting at an unnecessary red light in the middle of the night struggling with the temptation to drive through it.
Roundabouts are far more common in the U.K., but lately I have seen a few being built in and around the Toronto area. Here in the Quinte region, Picton has two of them. They are quick and easy once people get used to them.
Initially they will cause a bit of confusion to the uninitiated who might be a little hesitant when … (14 comments)

quinte real estate: Micturate Or Get Off the Pot!! - 09/17/11 05:46 AM
Anybody who has ever sold real estate for a living will have some rather odd stories about people. Real estate, for the most part, is really about people, and as we all know, some people can be a little difficult to deal with.
I recently had a listing. I did a market evaluation for the sellers (I agonize over them), and they liked the work I put into the evaluation and decided to list with me. The sellers are from out of the province, and really didn't know very much about the property they owned. they hadn't even seen the place in … (8 comments)

quinte real estate: A Simple Solution That Works. - 09/16/11 04:58 AM
Sometimes solutions to problems can be amazingly simple. I sometimes believe that we in the western world are hardwired to look for more complicated methods to solve problems we may have.
The following video will show you an example of something that will leave you saying "why didn't I think of that?".
Many people in developing nations live in dimly lit buildings with corrugated metal roofs. Imagine all the light that can be brought into their lives and all the 2 litre pop (soda for you Yankees) bottles that can be kept out of landfills. I think this simple idea is a … (9 comments)

quinte real estate: Trenton Scottish Irish Festival, Sept. 9th and 10th - 09/06/11 01:20 PM
The following weekend will be one of the big signature weekends in Trenton. Every year Trenton puts on the Scottish Irish festival in September. I do enjoy the festival, there's something about the sound of bagpipes that I love.
The festival has been an ongoing tradition since 1990, and it features Highland Games competitions, marching bands, pipes and drums, Irish dancers, and lots of people milling around and watching the events. There's also a lot of vendors selling all kinds of Scottish and Irish things. Personally, I'm going to fill up on a few meat pies and some Scottish tablet. There … (14 comments)

quinte real estate: Canadian Real Estate People - Increase Your Net Presence - 09/04/11 12:23 PM
Every blogger knows the importance of being visible on the internet. This is why most of us blog in the first place.
One of the reasons why we blog regularly is to provide links to our websites. Links are a very important part of our SEO (Search Engine Optimization - as if you didn't already know that) strategy. One of the criteria that the search engines use to determine which sites are going to rate highly is to check the number of inbound links to the site.
Sites with a large number of inbound links are considered "authority" sites, and as … (13 comments)

quinte real estate: On His Own - 09/02/11 08:43 AM
I have always believed that it's much better to rip a bandaid off quickly than to try to remove it slowly and prolong the pain. That was something that my dad taught me.
Unfortunately the last couple of weeks have felt a lot like slowly peeling off a bandaid. Today it's almost over though.
The last couple of weeks have been a flurry of activity with all the college preparations for my two kids. Both of them are going off to their first year of college, one a couple of hundred miles east of here and the other a couple of … (18 comments)

quinte real estate: Oh The Humanity - 08/18/11 06:17 AM
I just couldn't resist. I hope the owner of this home doesn't read my blog.
I was showing houses the other day and one of them was a rather stately looking Victorian home. It was a little past its prime and in need of some upkeep. It was "dated" to say the least. I was somewhat expecting to walk into a room and see Miss Haversham sitting beside a hollowed out wedding cake. Fortunately no one was home.
Boy oh boy, I can't think of anything that screams out "dated" more than original Starwars wallpaper. I had to snap a picture of this, … (22 comments)

quinte real estate: I Make The Dough, You Get The Glory (And a Referral Fee) - 08/14/11 05:19 AM
Last Year I was contacted by fellow Active Rain member Ty Lacroix from Envelope Real Estate in London, Ontario. Ty had a client who happened to own a beautiful 93 acre parcel of land in Prince Edward County, just south of Trenton and wanted it sold. London is about a 4 hour drive from here, so Ty referred the business to me
Vacant land can be a bit of a hard sell, especially in a fairly remote area like the southern tip of Prince Edward County, and a bit of patience was required, but I'm happy to say that we now have … (21 comments)

quinte real estate: The Bearer of Bad News - 08/10/11 05:13 AM
Damn you, Crayola Pencil display. You ruined a perfectly good trip to Walmart. I was only popping in to buy a couple of bags of potting soil from the garden centre, and there you were, grinning from ear to ear, strategically placed near the entrance. Seeing you was unavoidable, but you knew that, that's why you were situated there.
Who do you think you are? Do you enjoy wiping the smile off other people's faces while grinning from ear to ear yourself? Oh how I would have enjoyed putting a fist through your bubbly yellow cardboard visage, but I restrained myself, … (17 comments)
