realtor: How I Give Back to the Community - 06/30/14 10:51 AM
I am a firm believer that as REALTORS we should be invested in the community.  That includes giving abck to the community wherever you can. Over the years I've gotten involved in a lot of different ways of giving back to the community.
A few years ago I was asked to serve on the State College Area School District's Community Advisory Committee for Facilities.  This committee helps the facilities director make recommendations to the local school board regarding the buildings and facilities of the school district. Most recently we helped the district work through the referendum process to do a a … (4 comments)

realtor: Winter PRE-PLANS for 2014 for my Business - 11/02/13 10:58 AM
Every year in the winter I start writing my business plan for the next year.  In my area, even though it's cold, we don't really get a slow down in the winter.  Obviously in the holiday season there aren't a whole lot of home buying or selling going on but there are a lot of folks that want to get things done before the end of the year whether it's for tax purposes or just filling their New Year's Resolution from last year.
This year my business has come a long way.  It's been my best year yet in real … (2 comments)

realtor: Why I Love Pennsylvania - 10/01/13 11:22 PM
I have lived in Pennsylvania for the majority of my life.  The only exception was the 6 years I spent in the US Army travelling the world and living all over the place.  Guess where I came back to?  Pennsylvania! When I was younger all I wanted to do was get out of Pennsylvania and move far away.  So why did I come back?  It started out because I wanted to get out of the Army and go to college.  I was a resident of Pennsylvania and Penn State University is a great school.  At the time Penn State was actually … (5 comments)

realtor: How Do I Select a REALTOR? - 09/25/13 11:10 AM
This is a great question and one I don’t hear asked enough.  A lot of people seem to stumble on to a REALTOR whether it’s through and open house or an email inquiry into a property.  What most people should be doing is interviewing REALTORS before setting out on an undertaking like buying or selling a home.
First things first, not all real estate agents are REALTORs.  REALTORS subscribe to a Code of Ethics that goes above and beyond that of state real estate laws.  Any REALTOR should be dealing on the up and up.
When you interview potential agents … (5 comments)

realtor: I Once Sold a Goat With A House - 08/25/13 04:40 AM
A few years ago we had a proeprty listed that was an amazing two hundred year old home that we believed used to be a tavern.  The home was almost 4,000 square feet and was situated right along the road which is why we figured it to be an inn or a tavern of some kind.  The home was decorated great to the period and showed wonderful.  If I recall correctly it had almost 12 foot ceilings on the first floor.  The house was sited on over 5 acres and a good part of that was a steep ravine in the … (61 comments)

realtor: My Print Advertising Experience - 05/09/13 11:56 PM
In my office we use pretty much every medium available to advertise and promote. We use television commercials for both image advertising and to highlight some of our bigger commercial listings. We use social media, blogging, Twitter, Facebook, ActiveRain, and email to reach our clients as well as potential clients.  We use direct mail to get out to the exprired listings, new listing and just sold postcards, as well as marketing to newly married couples as well who may be purchasing a home.
We have also used a lot of different print advertising methods.  We have used everything from a … (7 comments)
