state college: How I Give Back to the Community
- 06/30/14 10:51 AM
I am a firm believer that as REALTORS we should be invested in the community. That includes giving abck to the community wherever you can. Over the years I've gotten involved in a lot of different ways of giving back to the community. A few years ago I was asked to serve on the State College Area School District's Community Advisory Committee for Facilities. This committee helps the facilities director make recommendations to the local school board regarding the buildings and facilities of the school district. Most recently we helped the district work through the referendum process to do a a (4 comments)

state college: Does it Matter Who You Use For a Buyers Agent?
- 11/22/13 10:35 AM
Generally I see a lot of buyers that end up just going with whatever agent happens to show them their first home. Sometimes it's just the random person that happens to answer their email they sent about a property they saw on the internet. A young, inexperienced agent once said to me, "It doesn't really matter who people use as a buyer's agent anyway." Obviously I disagree with that statement and now that he's been in the business a few year he also disagrees with his own statement. Buyer's Agents aren't a commodity. There are good ones and there are (5 comments)

- 11/10/13 06:49 AM
When it comes time to sell your home there are a lot of items that you should look for when selecting an agent to list your home. More than likely this is the most expensive and valuable asset you own so great care must be taken when selecting a listing agent. Here are couple tips: Select a Full-Time agent. Don't you want an agent that's sole job is to get your home sold? Would you rather have someone that has a day job and isn't thinking of your house at all during regular business hours? It's also much easier for professional, full-time (4 comments)

state college: Is There a Demand for "Tiny Homes?"

A client of mine is the Construction instructor at the local Vo-Tech school. The other day he asked me to come in and speak with his class about the possibilty of building a Micro House and selling it on the open market. I had never heard of such a thing before so I started doing some research on it. The idea that they have is to build a 250 square foot home that would have a kitchen, full bath, living room and a loft bedroom. It would be a fee simple ownership with public water and sewer. state college: How Do I Select a REALTOR?
- 09/25/13 11:10 AM
This is a great question and one I don’t hear asked enough. A lot of people seem to stumble on to a REALTOR whether it’s through and open house or an email inquiry into a property. What most people should be doing is interviewing REALTORS before setting out on an undertaking like buying or selling a home. First things first, not all real estate agents are REALTORs. REALTORS subscribe to a Code of Ethics that goes above and beyond that of state real estate laws. Any REALTOR should be dealing on the up and up. When you interview potential agents (5 comments)
state college: How Does the Home Buying Process Work?
- 09/25/13 10:55 AM
While it can be a long process, buying a home should be relatively painless. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart and can be fraught with peril if not navigated correctly. The first step is to select a highly qualified REALTOR to assist you in the process. Feel free to interview multiple REALTORS for the job, because that’s exactly what it is, a job. You’re going to employ that agent to work for you and look out for your best interests along the way. That agent should have years of experience in the area that you want to live. (0 comments)
