Feel like catching a free flick in the streets and alleyways of Pasadena on a warm summer night? For three weekends starting this Friday July 11th, movies will be projected in both expected and unexpected places such as the One Colorado Courtyard (image to the left, the screen can be seen on the top right of the picture) and on the School House Garage Rooftop (Old Pasadena Film festival starts Friday, Pasadena Star News). The films selected in conjunction with the locations, are meant to parallel each other and reflect similarities, bringing to life the architecture of Old Pasadena. After 23 years of pushing to get the project through, the Georgian Revival Raymond Theatre in Old Pasadena will be converted into The Raymond Renaissance. A $45 million project consisting of 28 condominiums, 10 lofts, and retail geared to pull traffic away from the main Colorado Blvd. strip. Although quite a bit of opposition was met, this conversion is another point in the ongoing revitalization of Old Pasadena, which began years ago (Treasure Transformed, Pasadena Star News). With major retailers lining the streets, and high end restaurants on every corner, the Raymond Renaissance will further perpetuate the lifestyle Pasadenans have grown to (0 comments)

It isn't hard to notice the mass construction when driving down Green Street, across from Paseo Colorado. And as with most construction, it evokes curiosity. If you're a Pasadena resident you may be more anxious than curious, and you may be a little tired of all the construction dotting our city, but that's what makes it and maintains it. The good news is that the Convention Center is well underway and ahead of schedule. "The new center will feature 85,000 square feet of exhibit space, 28 "breakout" rooms for smaller conferences, a new 25,000-square-foot ballroom and additional parking."
