real estate: Things YouTube Cant Do: Upload Video Directly Into A Online Listing On Your Own Site - 10/20/08 10:28 PM
As good and as much fun as YouTube is, it doesn't give you a lot of benefits that are specific to real estate and helping you grow your real estate business. Even real estate video companies provide few (if any) benefits to make your life easier in terms of time and cost savings for using video - they talk a lot about the video but never say that you still have to cut and paste video into each of your listings. Could a broker or agency with dozens or hundreds really invest the time to do that?
If you have a … (7 comments)

real estate: Defining "Enterprise Ready": A Guide To Online Video Platforms For Brokers, Agencies, Associations, And Listing Portals - 10/18/08 01:02 AM
All real estate video platforms are not alike.  If your video platform provider is geared to uploading and converting videos, places videos on their own site for the search engines to find, and is more concerned about branding themselves or other third parties, it isnt "enterprise ready".
Some key factors when considering a video platform for your organization (whether local, state, national or international level in focus)
- Branding: An enterprise video solution will "know" where a video is being watched and be able to apply the correct branding to that video. The branding choices should be 100% configurable by the … (5 comments)

real estate: Videographers: Why Limit Yourself To 100MB Uploads? - 10/13/08 07:22 AM
We've always wondered why there is a limit of somewhere around or just over 100MB for video uploads. It isn't a technical limitation - it's a service provider enforced limitation (one of those "..to better serve you" things, I guess).
As a videographer and as a member of the Vidlisting social network, you'll have no such limitation at such a low file size. We've tested uploading files as large as 2GB without issue on our completely automated real estate video upload and conversion system. So, if you have a video interview, podcast, or other lengthy real estate oriented video that you … (8 comments)

real estate: Free Yourself From Your Video Upload Provider - How An Org Can Self Host Video Without Headaches - 08/30/08 05:10 AM
Why Don't More Organizations Self Host Their Videos?
If you think about it, there are a number of things that real estate video upload companies like Youtube or others dont do well. It seems that you always have to deal with their branding and their requirement to cut and paste content. This works for a few videos...but is this really an efficient method for organizations to manage content?
Let's say that your brokerage or local REALTOR Board wants to host property videos on their own web server for their agents that have flip cameras, video capable iPhone, or other traditional video … (4 comments)

real estate: Why Aren’t Video Channels More Like…Well…Channels? - 04/05/08 02:46 AM
Today, it hit me. Channels on popular video sites have always conceptually bothered me a bit but I really couldn't put my finger on exactly why. Finally, I realized that channels on any of the major video sites aren't really like channels at all.
Online Channels Are More Like Mail Order Catalogs Than TV Channels
If you've ever received a mail order catalog, you know that in order to find something in it, you actually have to go the page in the catalog to get more information.  You also have to look at every page of the catalog to know whats available.  Printed catalogs have … (0 comments)

real estate: Getting Instant Video Conversion and Details About Uploaded Videos - 02/16/08 12:51 AM
Vidlisting's real estate video upload and conversion functionality is fully automated - no waiting for someone to approve your video (which we are sure in some cases actually means manual processing).
You'll have your real estate video available and viewable online within minutes. We've always done an instant automated review of your video upload to determine if the uploaded file is a valid video file and to understand some of the video details for processing. Lots of people try to upload files that are not actually video files for some reason. This 100% automated process is why Vidlisting has the flexibility to maintain 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios and … (1 comments)

real estate: REALTOR(r) Association In Miami Deploys Branded Video Widgets in Multiple Languages - 02/04/08 07:05 AM
The REALTOR Association of Greater Miami and the Beaches (RAMB) has deployed their first RAMB branded video widgets for property videos and other video content such as interviews. Best of all, the widgets support multiple languages in the same interface. They've posted the first one in their spanking new RAMB blog (which is available to RAMB members as well). Here is the link to the actual blog post:  http://blog.miamire.com/video-widgets-are-here-0.

As you can see, the video plays using vidlisting technology on vidlisting servers but under the miamire domain with the same look and feel as the RAMB website. Customers might never know that … (0 comments)

real estate: A Few Tips And Techniques To Make Great Property Videos On The Cheap - 12/30/07 12:28 PM
Here are some tips and recommendations that can help anyone make decent quality videos of properties for sale:
- Have a basic plan that makes sense: You should move through the house in a way that makes sense. What you dont want to do is "teleport" from one area to another and back. We try to show some spatial relationship to objects that are fairly easy easy to locate (front door, stairs, kitchen, pool, etc.)
- Have a reason to move the camera or use the zoom: Try to start and end each shot on something of interest. Count to 10 and then start moving or … (18 comments)

real estate: Introducing Performance Based Pricing For Video Tours In South Florida: If People Don't Watch, You Don't Pay - 11/26/07 10:15 PM
Vidlisting will begin offering performance based pricing for video tours for residential properties in South Florida. We'll be adding other areas in the United States over the next few months.
What Does Performance Based Pricing Mean?
Property videos are actually advertisements. Advertising is generally priced on the actual or anticipated views not the cost of production.
Performance based pricing shifts the costs of residential real estate video tours from production to marketing success. Instead of paying an upfront flat rate fee for 6 months, you pay only a small variable fee per view. In short, the total costs are in relation to the amount of video views … (4 comments)

real estate: Measuring Online User Loyalty And Interest Using Hard Data From Your Website Statistics - 11/01/07 01:01 AM
Hopefully, this post will show people how to glean useful data out of their site statistics. We'll be using our own actual data as the example - therefore all of the analysis is in the context of real estate video.  However, the same techniques can just as easily apply to listings, virtual tours, or blog posts.
Measuring Engagement Is Important But Interest and Loyalty Are the Next Steps
We've previously taked about engagement which is defined as the willingness of a visitor to watch a video (see http://activerain.com/blogsview/163603/Measuring-Online-Engagement-With).  The below data is an extension of the engagement metric as we are analyzing the … (3 comments)

real estate: Social Networks Vs Content Distribution Networks: Using Ideas and Content As Currency - 10/21/07 02:05 AM
(Note this post was formed from an initial response to Pat Kitano to his comment in my previous blog post)
I've never really gotten my head around the idea that the content distribution network that we are building is "just another form of Web 2.0 social networking". Recent articles by Pat Kitano and Lola Andu have really helped me to get a conceptual handle around my feeling that, while there are similarities...there are indeed differences as well.
Thinking About Ideas As A Conceptual Currency For Lead Generating Transactions
I am in full agreement with Pat and Lola Andu that leads would form the mirror or return process … (4 comments)

We'll be attending this year's conference for the first time. Here is the link for thise that may be unfamiliar: http://www.2007hispanicmarketingconvention.com/
There seem to be a lot of interesting seminars on cross cultural real estate marketing and related subjects so it should be a worthwhile trip.  Perhaps someone that has attended a previous NAHREP conference can comment.
If anyone is attending and interested in meeting up while at the show, please let me know.  It would be cool to meet some fellow Active … (4 comments)

real estate: Progress Report: Performance For The Critical First Fourteen Days Of A Video Listing - 09/09/07 09:25 AM
The first 14 days of any listing of any listing are critical with the second 16 days running close behind.
Here is the 14 day performance for an video of Los Bosques (a recent development project in Panama):
First 14 day total: 541 video views
24 day total: 975 video views (as of this writing - still 6 days to go)
Only consistent performance around the hard numbers of property videos will improve the the odds for getting what sellers want: sales. The number of views of other types of content like conferences or interviews have little to do with buyers. … (1 comments)

We interviewed Oliver in both English and Spanish...both interviews are under 5 minutes and available via the widget above. The new widget displays any given video in all of its available languages. If you'd like to learn about some interesting locations where people are building and buying high end real estate, … (0 comments)

real estate: Vidlisting.com On Track For 90,000 Real Estate Videos Watched In The Month Of August 2007 - 08/17/07 02:55 AM
Our Video Audience Continues To Grow We crossed the 75,000 monthly video view milestone in July 2007. Right now, at the halfway point for the month of August, our network of real estate videos is on track to approach or surpass 90,000 video views for the month of August. Considering that we have only 9 months live and just surpassed 500,000 *all time* video views in June 2007, this is no small growth. What is most interesting is that we have only posted new property videos this month...no non-property content (conference videos, roller coasters, etc.) has been uploaded this month. Note … (0 comments)

real estate: Defining The Minimum Presentation Bar For Online Listings: Basic Concepts (Part 1) / AR Post #100 for me - 08/11/07 12:25 AM
Previous comments on my blog post about real estate video by Jeff Turner and Lenn Harley really got me thinking about defining what the minimum presentation bar would be for properties and how various online tools would fit into a conceptual model. I figured this would be an ideal topic for Post #100 here on AR. Bear with me because this is a post that attempts to build a conceptual model within the confines of a single blog post and there is "some assembly required" to get to my point.
Assumptions
There are some assumptions in my thinking around properties and … (0 comments)

real estate: Are We Focusing On The Right Audience With Real Estate Video? - 08/08/07 10:05 PM
Is real estate video about "real estate" or is it about "video"?
That is the question that I posed last night while talking by phone with a videographer interested in working with us. "Real estate", he replied. So I asked him why he had such a strong focus on video web sites for his real estate videos if real estate video is about real estate? lengthy pause...and ultimately the answer focused on somethng along the lines of "it seems like we just put videos there". An "a-ha" moment for both of us for different reasons.

real estate: Why Sexy Isn't Always Best On Real Estate Websites - 06/16/07 12:03 PM
I have a client with a real estate website that is absolutely beautiful.  It is almost a work of art.
There are two problems however:
#1 - Google No Likee 100% Flash: The site in question is written 100% in Flash.  The SEO issues are so bad that the client cannot specifically search in Google for an exclusively marketed development on his site using his agency name and the development name and have any of the results point to his site.
#2 - No Source Code: My client cannot make any changes to the website because they don't have a copy of the flash … (18 comments)
