youtube: Things YouTube Cant Do: Upload Video Directly Into A Online Listing On Your Own Site - 10/20/08 10:28 PM
As good and as much fun as YouTube is, it doesn't give you a lot of benefits that are specific to real estate and helping you grow your real estate business. Even real estate video companies provide few (if any) benefits to make your life easier in terms of time and cost savings for using video - they talk a lot about the video but never say that you still have to cut and paste video into each of your listings. Could a broker or agency with dozens or hundreds really invest the time to do that?
If you have a … (7 comments)

youtube: Videographers: Why Limit Yourself To 100MB Uploads? - 10/13/08 07:22 AM
We've always wondered why there is a limit of somewhere around or just over 100MB for video uploads. It isn't a technical limitation - it's a service provider enforced limitation (one of those "..to better serve you" things, I guess).
As a videographer and as a member of the Vidlisting social network, you'll have no such limitation at such a low file size. We've tested uploading files as large as 2GB without issue on our completely automated real estate video upload and conversion system. So, if you have a video interview, podcast, or other lengthy real estate oriented video that you … (8 comments)

youtube: Why Aren’t Video Channels More Like…Well…Channels? - 04/05/08 02:46 AM
Today, it hit me. Channels on popular video sites have always conceptually bothered me a bit but I really couldn't put my finger on exactly why. Finally, I realized that channels on any of the major video sites aren't really like channels at all.
Online Channels Are More Like Mail Order Catalogs Than TV Channels
If you've ever received a mail order catalog, you know that in order to find something in it, you actually have to go the page in the catalog to get more information.  You also have to look at every page of the catalog to know whats available.  Printed catalogs have … (0 comments)

youtube: Why Are We So Attached To The YouTube Model To Distribute Real Estate Video? - 12/21/07 10:53 PM
Initial Models Have Always Been Limiting
There was a time when the world was thought to be flat. Humans just could not break out of that model.
People simply could not conceive of a round earth. They drew dragons on maps to represent falling off the edge of the world. Even though there was data from visual observation of the night skies and a fledging body of mathematicians with math that said otherwise, it took hundreds of years to break out of the existing model to the mre successful model that we have today.
Why The YouTube Video Model Is Limiting
Should the YouTube model of real estate … (10 comments)

youtube: The Data Again Shows That YouTube STILL Isn't The Magic Elixir Even With Videos Shown Inline As Universal Search Results - 06/10/07 12:36 AM
Background
This is a followup to our initial post about the performance of real estate property on YouTube.  The initial analysis was completed prior to Google making YouTube videos playable right from search results via the Google Universal Search feature. The results were a paltry average of 16 video views within the first two weeks and a statistical mean of 8 (translation: a few videos had a lot of views which propped up the average).
This morning, we revisited YouTube to see if Universal Search had made a difference in the number of videos viewed. We used the exact same criteria as the first test … (20 comments)

youtube: YouTube Is Not A Magic Elixir...And The Data Proves It - 05/06/07 05:58 AM
**UPFRONT DISCLAIMER: I own a real estate video company - though I try to stay focused on empirical data in the posting below, I do have a financial stake in a different company focused on the same market
BACKGROUND
This morning we looked at every You Tube property video that was marked as "1 week ago".  This means that the real estate video had been posted between 7-13 days ago.  Within our own company, we consider the first two weeks critical as it is a reasonable timeframe to begin to see tangible results not only in terms of visitors but also in terms of visitor feedback and action (contacts, etc.)  We specifically excluded certain … (23 comments)
