carlsbad: Remote Wireless Triggers
- 09/28/08 05:02 PM
I've used a handheld remote trigger (with a wire) for a long time on my Canon 5d. However, I am planning on buying the new Canon 5D back, and so I gave some thought to whether I might use my existing 5D back on my pole. (Getting scary!) I was VERY pleased to find that there are a number of 3rd party companies manufacturing radio/wireless triggers for Canon cameras. Instead of paying $500 for the Canon unit, I got a simple two-stage trigger for $89 at Adorama, and the instructions say it will work up to 100 ft. We still have not (4 comments)
carlsbad: 1671 Plover Ct., Carlsbad, CA- Sanderling at Aviara - Home Brochure
- 01/28/08 04:28 AM
Here's our most recent brochure in all its high dynamic range glory. This is the first brochure that we have ever featured just 4 primary photos in the interior. It's a nice home, so I'm glad the pictures do a nice job of showing it off.
If you are hunting for real estate in Aviara, then you should definitely check out our web sites. We have one specifically for the Aviara area - www.AviaraHomes.com. We also a broader site that shows all of Carlsbad at www.EncinitasCarlsbad.com. Both sites have incredible maps, the likes of which you have probably not seen at any (1 comments)
carlsbad: Examples of DVD Home Tours - One Team's Video Style
- 12/19/07 02:21 AM
Over the past month, I've had a few people ask about what we do with video, so I decided to post our home tour DVD page. The links below are not DVD-quality video; they are the video that we shoot and burn on the DVDs, but reduced to web-streaming quality (which is significantly reduced). Please note: These tours are only 10-15 minutes long, but our entire DVD is actually about 2 hours because we put a lot of video marketing/training on the disc. One final note (and maybe even a bit of a rant): We have a definite style in what we (3 comments)
carlsbad: A Review of DVD Media
- 12/18/07 06:29 PM
There are many agents who are using video in their practices. We have been creating home tour DVDs for about three years, and over that time, we have discovered that there can be a wide array of differences in the quality of DVD media. Just to give you some idea of our experience, we have probably burned over 30,000 DVDs in our duplicating system. In the beginning, we tried out many different brands primarily based on what was on sale. These included Memorex, TDK, and so non-marketed brands available through wholesalers to people who are burning large quantities of discs. As with most (7 comments)
carlsbad: Taking Back Yard Photos to the Next Level
- 12/16/07 11:20 AM
A back yard can be an important feature for some homes for many reasons: 1) a premium may have been paid for a view lot; 2) a premium may have been paid for the size; or 3) the owner may have invested a lot of money and wants to recoup it from a buyer who equally values the work done. This article seeks to discuss some of the considerations when taking photos of the back yard. Please note that California weather does not allow for the kind of seasonal variation that occurs in other parts of the country, so keep that in (11 comments)
carlsbad: Pool Pics by Pole
- 12/08/07 07:15 PM
NOTE: If you haven't ever seen a pole system, I recommend taking a look at Lee Jink's artice on the Evolution of His PAP System. You might also look at my recent article on when to take pole pics and when not to take them. I love taking pool pictures with our pole camera. They are some of the most fun pictures to take because the surroundings are usually great and the water and sky makes for great pictures. So I thought I would just share a few of our pool pole pics! (Say that 3 times really fast.) The first one is the pool at (21 comments)
carlsbad: Umbrella stands and flashes
- 12/08/07 05:23 PM
John was over at some rental units taking some photos, so I asked him to take a couple of pictures of our camera rig that we have. Specifically, I asked him to show the umbrella stand set-up with the camera and flash on a cord. So, here's the picture that he took. As you can see, the 5D is tipped over and John is taking pictures of the bedroom from the doorway. The umbrella stand is parked right behind it with two Vivitar flashes shooting through the translucent umbrella. This umbrella disburses the light really well so that you don't have hot spots. carlsbad: Coastal San Diego Hazardous Waste Pickup
- 12/08/07 05:09 PM
We had a bunch of paint at our house, and we decided to finally get rid of it. We knew there were hazardous waste drop-off locations for electronics, but we weren't sure about disposing of liquids. To our very pleasant surprise, we found out about Clean Harbors. (Phone: 1-800-444-4244) They have signed agreements with Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar, Solana Beach, and San Marcos (I think). Just call the number, and they will come pick it up. If you have the standard amount, up to 15 gallons of paint, they charge $10 in Encinitas (prices may vary in other city jurisdictions due to (1 comments)
carlsbad: Filming Home Tour Videos - A Review of the Fig Rig
- 12/03/07 04:08 PM
We have been making full motion video home tours for about three years. From the beginning, we decided to do "reality tv" style tours where the camera follows the agent around the home as the agent points out the important features. This REALLY shows off the home and the real estate agent, and with remote microphones, there are no wires to trip over. After making four or five of them, I began to get the knack of it, and now we can complete a tour with about an hour or so of video shooting. The big difficulty with doing this kind of (6 comments)
carlsbad: Taking Your Photos of Kitchens to the Next Level
- 12/03/07 05:36 AM
This the fourth in a series about how we take our photos. The pictures were taken with a Canon 5D, with a Tilt/Shift Lens. If you are new to architectural photography, you might take a look at the earlier posts, and here's the quick list of the prior posts: Part 1: Camera/Tripod; Part 2: The Tilt/Shift Lens; and Part 3: Taking the photos/Editing. I have also posted specific pieces about Photographing Bathrooms and another on Photographing Family Rooms. Kitchen shots can often be a very important photo because of the role that modern tastes have played in making the kitchen a design point. (48 comments)
carlsbad: Taking Your Home Photography to the Next Level - Part 1 of 3
- 12/02/07 05:48 AM
A NOTE ON COST: If you find that the cost of this sort of equipment is too high to justify today, then try to stack up a couple of listings and rent the equipment. Usually you can get a 7 day rental for the price of 3 days, and that will give you plenty of time to get used to the camera. Then, when at the home, take pictures with the rental and with your current camera and compare the results, and you will immediately understand why I posted this series. Good Luck and Happy Home Photos. We take the photography (7 comments)
carlsbad: Home Marketing: Use DVDs!
- 11/28/07 02:06 AM
If you or someone you know is thinking about selling their home, it is important to consider the use of full-motion video and DVDs. We have been doing this for years, and have gotten to the point where we own cameras, remote microphones, lights, Avid post-production systems and more. Here are a few of the reasons we have found that having video and DVDs is so important in selling a home today. Open House 24/7. The most critical factor in selling a home for top dollar is marketing exposure. By having full-color brochures with DVDs in the flyer box at (4 comments)
carlsbad: Things to Consider When Buying in Carlsbad, CA
- 11/27/07 03:51 PM
Thinking about living in Carlsbad, CA? It's a great place! That's where we relocated to when we moved from the East Coast. However, here are some things to think about if you are new to the area. Three School Systems
In many areas of the country, the school systems follow the municipal boundaries; this is not the case in Carlsbad, and there are three different school systems within its boundaries. The Carlsbad Unified School District (“CUSD”) covers most of the city, including Olde Carlsbad, north Carlsbad, and Aviara. The area east of the La Costa golf course is part of the San Marcos (1 comments)
carlsbad: Foreclosures in San Diego County
- 11/26/07 03:53 PM
There's a lot of talk these days about foreclosures, reos, and defaults. In an effort to answer our client's questions about what was going on in the market, we implemented Foreclosure maps, where we take the current data and plot it on the map. This allows our clients (and us) to visually see where the foreclosures are occurring to better understand the real estate market. Here's the kind of map that I'm talking about: Note: The numbers on the pushpins show how many bedrooms for the particular property. This map is the current (as of this writing) trustee sale map (i.e., (0 comments)
carlsbad: Climate Zones for San Diego
- 11/26/07 03:27 PM
People hear a lot about the climate in San Diego, but did you know that the west part of San Diego has FOUR climate zones? Depending upon where you buy a house, there can be substantial differences in your climate experience there, and things like air conditioning can matter in one zone and not another. Here's a quick list of the zones that scientists have identified by looking at empirical temperature and humidity data: The last of the four zones, the desert zone, is further inland, well past the city of San Diego. To help people better understand where the climate (1 comments)
carlsbad: Implementing Lot/Land Maps in San Diego
- 11/18/07 03:43 PM
Did you ever wonder why VERY VERY FEW real estate sites have really good lot/land real estate maps? This blog entry seeks to explain the problems and to give you some ideas on how you might solve them. Recently we implemented real estate maps with Lot/Land data pulled from the MLS RETS server. This had been a troublesome set of maps to create, so I decided to share some of my ideas with our colleagues on this. Just so you know what I'm talking about, I'll show you a piece of one of the details of one of my current Encinitas (0 comments)
