transformations: CMHC Household Renovations Report - 07/25/09 03:07 AM
Do you ever wonder how your own behaviours and expenditures as a home owner stack up to the norm?
According to a report released by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), approximately 1.7 million households across 10 major city centres spent almost $21.3 billion on renovations to their primary residence in 2008.  About 35 percent of households spent $1,000 or more on these renovations.
Other highlights from the survey include:
 *  The most popular reno was painting or wallpapering a room, with 28% of those who renovated stating they had undertaken this type of renovation in 2008.  Remodelling a room … (0 comments)

transformations: Condo Before and After: Wow! - 10/29/08 01:47 AM
I have a very talented and smart client.  She recently made a significant life change upon her retirement by leaving Toronto to move to Collingwood to live a quality lifestyle.
This gal purchased a run-down condo that had the right bones, a fabulous location and a good price.  Then she set her mind to making it hers and here are the results:

Isn't that amazing?  No, she is not a stager or designer but rather, a person with great taste and a good eye. It looks like an entirely different place and rest assured, she … (4 comments)

transformations: Preparing Your Home For Sale - 05/18/08 07:01 AM
With the Spring Market now here, it's timely to talk about getting your home ready to sell.
Did you know that most buyers make a real decision about a house purchase in the first eleven to fifteen seconds of seeing a property?  By then they will already have developed a perception of your property that will colour their feelings for the rest of the showing and perhaps dramatically affect their perceived value of the property.

You want to sell your home for top dollar as quickly as possible with the least amount if inconvenience, right?  You can start by changing … (5 comments)

transformations: It’s Time To Vote - 01/10/08 06:55 AM
Back in mid-December, I posted a "Virtual Design Contest" which is now closed. I'm delighted to report that five fabulous entries were received and they came from as close as Collingwood (my locale) and from as far away as San Diego, California and Cabarete in the Dominican Republic.
None of these five brave souls are home designers but each one has proven they have an eye for curb appeal. They have generously taken the time to contemplate and then apply their creativity to the picture, all of which takes time and a good dose of courage. So, to each of you, … (2 comments)

transformations: Your Five Minutes of Fame are Coming! - 12/19/07 10:43 AM
Hey you. Yes, YOU!  I can see you reading this page right now and Im hoping you'll have some fun with me over the next few weeks.
Let's have an online design contest.  C'mon, I know you are artistic and have a keen eye for design.
I'll tell you right off the bat that I have sort of stolen this idea from St. Paul Minnesota Blogging Goddess Teresa Boardman who inspired this idea with her virtual pumpkin carving contest in October.
Have a look at this house.  While it isn't exactly loaded with curb appeal, it's gorgeous inside and is in a wonderful location.  … (12 comments)

transformations: Before and After (or why we should never let opportunity pass us by!) - 11/05/07 10:29 AM

This small little house in Collingwood, Ontario used to be rather non-descript and easy to miss.  It sits on a small lot tucked between two larger buildings just a block off of our historic main street.  When it went up for sale a couple of years ago, most people didn't give this sorry little fellow a second look even though it had a bargain basement price.
Along came someone with a vision who took advantage of the opportunity and who was able to buy the property for well below the going rate of other commercial properties.  The result?  Well, pictures speak louder than … (0 comments)

transformations: Curb Appeal Adds Real Value - 09/29/07 06:40 AM

How often do you drive by a house and notice how fantastic it looks?  Sometimes it's the landscaping and sometimes it's the appearance of the house and sometimes both.  You don't need to wish and dream that your house could look like that - you can do it!
Adding curb appeal to your home also adds value and often, a relatively small investment can make a significant difference.  If you search "Improving Curb Appeal" on the internet, close to 2 million sites come up brimming with ideas that can make a difference.  Back in June, I posted a before and after … (2 comments)
