There is much discussion and dissension on the proposal to put a Walmart into the old Bingham School at 7618 Wyandotte Street in Waldo. The Kansas City MO School Board has not released details of the possible sale. A group of citizens has started a petition opposing the move.
Their objections are manifold. Harm to privately owned local businesses, increased crime, loss of the 'small-town feeling', 'infiltration of cheap goods and low wages', and increased traffic congestion in an already busy area are a few of the reasons given by petition signers.

No, not bagpipes - drain pipes! The Brookside neighborhood of Kansas City is finally getting the new storm drains we've needed for so long! Aren't they pretty? Kissick Construction is installing the new drainage pipes. The workers have been very conscientious in cleaning up after themselves every day at quitting time. They're doing a great job!
Brookside has been on the list for new pipes for about 2 decades. Each year that Kansas City budgeted for our new pipes, the money was diverted to the revitalization of downtown Kansas City. 2012 is the year! Though the heavy equipment … (7 comments)

The new sculpture recently installed at Sculpture Park surrounding the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is an eye-catcher that shines in the sun!
Taken with iPhone. The silver tree in the middle of the two evergreens is actually the newest sulpture added to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. "Ferment" by artist Roxy Paine was donated to the Nelson by the Hall Family Foundation.

This evening, as I was preparing to leave the office, I looked out the window to see people standing in line to get an Apple iPad 2. The lines stretched around the corner and 2/3 the way down Nichols Rd. The Apple Store is about 1/2 block down Broadway. Were they giving the iPads away?

The mighty Clydesdales visit Kansas City's Waldo neighborhood!
People from all over Kansas City came out to greet the magnificent Budweiser Clydesdales at 75th & Wornall in Waldo. We were so pleased to see the Budweiser trucks pulling into the CVS parking lot today.
One team consists of eight horses. There are 4 teams.
Eight Clydesdales climbed out of the three Budweiser trucks. The Clydesdales travel with two drivers and a Dalmatian. (Plus the truck drivers and gear)

Driving home this evening, I saw this yard and was compelled to stop and take photos. They even have sound and light effects which means I may have to go back for a video!

Here's a short video taken in Kansas City on a cloudy day last week. After showing some condos downtown, I turned on the flipvideo camera from midtown to the Plaza just so you could get a little Kansas City flavor.
Kansas City is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month this year by turning many of our fountains pink so the last shot in the short video is of JC Nichols fountain in pink.
Did you know that Kansas City has more fountains than any city in the world with the exception of Rome?
