sumner: Maria's Book of the Month - 05/11/11 08:32 AM

I am currently reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.  http://www.randomhouse.com/rhpg/guernsey//book/
This story is about an author who receives a letter from a stranger who founded the above "....Society".  The letters back and forth showcase life on the island of Guernsey during the German occupation of WWII.  I had never heard of Guernsey before, but now am putting this destination on my "bucket list" of places to visit.  If you like a good read, check it out.

sumner: It's a small world after all. - 05/07/11 04:08 PM
This was supposed to be a Mother's Day post, but I guess that will have to wait until tomorrow.  Today while attending a Mother's Day tea with my 2 daughters and mom, I met a neighbor.  I met the neighbor in a neighborhood 1 1/2 hours away.  Brenda Keith, who actually lives minutes from me in Lake Tapps, was the speaker for the Tea held at North Mason Bible church in Belfair, WA.  Brenda spoke beautifully about being adopted into the family of God.

After the event, I went up with my daughter to meet her and her daughter.  While … (3 comments)

sumner: Lake Tapps - 04/28/11 11:04 AM

Lake Tapps is small town living within minutes of big city life. When I was a girl growing up in Seattle, Lake Tapps was a vacation destination with cabins on 2+ acre lots.  Now Lake Tapps is a suburb of the Greater Seattle/Tacoma area with  homes on 1/2 acre or smaller lots surrounding the lake and beyond.  Most of the trees around the Lake are gone, but non homeowners can access the Lake through the Pierce county park for a small fee.  http://www.piercecountywa.org/pc/services/recreate/LakeTapps.htm    A map of Lake Tapps:  http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Lake+Tapps&state=WA&country=US&latitude=47.184399&longitude=-122.170403&geocode=CITY   The lake itself is a reservoir which provides water for … (0 comments)

sumner: Granite vs Quartz countertop battle continued - 04/27/11 03:07 PM
In my previous blog, I discussed that Quartz was the countertop of choice for me.  However, after a few quotes, further research is needed.
After 2 quotes, one from Sears and another from C & G Marble and Granite, I am just as confused as ever.  C & G's quote was significantly lower than Sears.  However, with C & G, which only offered Granite, I would need to hire a plumber to reattach sink and dishwasher.  With Sears that was included.  Sears came with a nice assortment of both Granite and Quartz, and yes the Quartz was less expensive than the Granite, but still more … (0 comments)

sumner: Sumner High School offers world renowned IB program - 04/13/11 09:11 PM
Sumner High School is 1 of 18 schools in Washington State and only 1 of 3 in Pierce County that offers the International Baccalaureate Program (IB).  This program has been recognized by the world's leading universities.  My son is currently enrolled in the program at Sumner High School.  It is challenging and time consuming, but great for any student wanting to take their education to the next level.

sumner: Puyallup Spring Fair starts tomorrow - 04/13/11 08:06 AM

Puyallup Spring Fair starts tomorrow, Thursday at 2:00pm and goes through Sunday.  Thursday is kids free entrance and Friday is military appreciation day and all military and dependents with an ID card get free admittance.  It is much smaller than our Puyallup Fair in the fall.  But it is very enjoyable, to walk through the fair, without worrying about the crowds, and long lines.  If you want to spend a leisurely day with your family or just go and get a scone fix,  (You locals know what I mean), then go and "DO the Puyallup this weekend.

sumner: What I learned from the movie Soul Surfer - 04/11/11 08:42 AM
This weekedend the movie Soul Surfer, came out in theaters.  Based on the true life story of a young surfing teen who lost her arm in a shark attack.  It shows her life before and after the eventful day.  Young Bethany Hamilton on the verge of endorsements, loses her arm, and her future as a pro surfer, or so everyone thought.  She fought back hard to learn how to surf and surf competitively.  I was inspired.  As I drove home, I tried to think of applications to my own life.  The past few years have been difficult in the real estate … (4 comments)
