Did you know that Friday, September 20th, 2013 is CAR FREE DAY LONG ISLAND? CAR FREE DAY is an international event held every year in September to encourage people to leave their car at home and, instead, to either walk or take the train, bus, subway, bicycle, ferry or other means of mass transportation. CAR FREE DAY LONG ISLAND is meant to help us consider and reverse the negative impact of the use of single occupancy vehicles on Long Island. Huntington Town Supervisor, Frank Petrone, has expressed a need for a Community Center, which will serve the Huntington Union Free School District. He has expressed interest in utilizing the Jack Abrams Intermediate School (JAI), should the building become available. JAI is also the site for the newly proposed 6th Grade Center. The 6th Grade Center, together with the newly proposed Community Center, will create a much needed "anchor" in Huntington Station and will be perfectly suited to meet the needs of all residents in Huntington and Huntington Station within HUFSD.
