internet marketing: Why Google Plus? It's Better Overall For Business Than Facebook - 10/18/12 12:42 AM
When Google Plus was introduced just a few short months ago, it was initially greeted with eyerolls and "here we go again" from many business professionals.
"I don't have time for it."
"I have more social media platforms than I can keep up with already!"
These are some of the typical initial reactions, but Google added something very compelling and valuable to the mix.  It all started when the proposed merger of Google and Facebook fizzled last year.  Google had already failed twice (remember Google Wave and Google Buzz?) in their attempts at a valid social media platform, and the truth … (12 comments)

internet marketing: FREE SEO Opportunity for links to your website - 11/29/11 02:24 AM
NOTE:  Just to reiterate, the tool offered in this article is truly free with no hidden surprises.
Friends, a couple of weeks back I posted a "free" SEO opportunity that has turned out to be quite the disappointment.  What was once a nice idea to share information has been turned into a monetization tool...a practice, I might add, that can be destructive to a business.
A practice that concerns me with regard to how ActiveRain has handled the whole "Rainmaker" thing.
Since that turned out to be, in essence, a non-opportunity, I wanted to bring you something substantial to the table … (4 comments)

internet marketing: FREE SEO Opportunity That Most Real Estate Pros Are Overlooking - 11/04/11 02:21 AM
We SEO geeks have a saying:  "Content is King, Linking is Queen."
The gist of this is that before you focus on driving people to your website/blog and acquiring links to your page, you want to make sure people will like what they see once they're on your page.  Mainly, you want your content to be engaging, thoughtful and (most importantly) readable.  Complete sentences and correct grammar still count once we're all in adulthood...especially in this Internet age.
Which brings us to the "linking" portion of our show referenced in the headline of this article.  I was doing some research for … (144 comments)

internet marketing: Social Media Consultants - Necessary Deprogramming - 10/01/11 07:27 AM
While I'm admittedly biased, because I am an Internet marketing consultant as well as a real estate coach, I just couldn't believe what I was reading when I saw this article today.  It's from nearly a year ago and it just made my blood boil.  It’s in The Telegraph and it’s by someone named Milo Yiannopoulos who proudly shows that he just doesn’t get it.
While there are some insightful arguments made, I could not believe the rash and juvenile expressions (he calls social media consultants “blood sucking hucksters” among other colourful adjectives) this supposed professional used in burning the concept of social media … (0 comments)

internet marketing: Google Plus - A Lesson In Trial and Error - 09/19/11 07:14 AM

(This is a re-post for groups I couldn't include in the first post)
In your own SEO, Internet marketing and social media marketing efforts, it’s common to want to avoid the trial and error process that leads to real progress.   Much of the SEO and Internet marketing solutions offered online pander to this human tendency to want the reward without all the work.   If you ever feel yourself falling into that trap, there’s a great lesson to be learned from Google…and its failures.
In case you haven’t heard, Google has recently launched Google+, their social networking site that is trying to succeed where previous … (2 comments)

internet marketing: Social Media Is All About Your Approach - 04/24/11 11:38 PM
(Note: this is a repost for the groups I couldn't include on the first post)
In watching the new documentary on the band Rush ("Beyond the Lighted Stage"), I was particularly fascinated by the interview with drummer Neil Peart and legendary jazz drummer Freddie Gruber.    Peart, widely respected as one of the all-time great rock drummers, had studied with Gruber and when asked about his first lesson he said they didn't play drums...they talked about rhythm and motion and exchanged stories.
Then Gruber said the whole time during the lesson "We were behind the set of drums the whole time...because … (2 comments)

internet marketing: NAR Alternative...Better Homes and Gardens? - 04/05/11 07:26 AM

Some weeks back, I read an article about Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate and it really got my gears turning.  Not initially because of what was in the article, but because of what was missing.
One simple word.

Realtor.
In reading the article (my apologies...I can't find the damn link), it spoke about how BH&G was really striving to do things differently.  Of course, every company says that and it's usually said merely to try to color your perception of the abject sameness they're about to foist upon you. lol
The article spoke about the code of ethics BH&G real estate agents adhere to, … (1 comments)

internet marketing: Formula 409 - A Great Lesson In Persistence You Can Apply To Your Marketing - 12/16/10 12:54 AM
Okay, I just KNOW you’ve heard of Formula 409, the spray cleaner that has seemingly been around forever (mid-1960′s to be exact).   There’s a valuable lesson in trial and error to be learned from Formula 409 that we can all carry into the new year with regard to our respective marketing efforts.
It’s important to remember that rarely does everything come together perfectly in marketing on the first try.  Tweaks and bugs have to be dealt with and corrected, SEO and key words may need modification along the way, and all these “little things” have a tremendous impact on the … (3 comments)

internet marketing: $600 For Your 15 Seconds of Fame...Are You Merely Spinning Your Marketing Wheels? - 09/29/10 08:18 AM
As if on cue, two weeks after my original post on marketing spam I received a solicitation and engaged in a dialogue which exposes a very common sales tactic that is causing much frustration, disappointment and wasted money on internet "marketing."
This is a bit of a long post, so I've included a link to the hair-raising video piece I recorded to accompany and explain it...and maybe save you a bit of time:     Click here to view the video piece
Below, you will see the email exchange (with names changed to avoid any hassle), with my email replies in boldface:

internet marketing: Press Release or Marketing Spam...What Are YOU Paying For? - 09/17/10 01:59 AM
Having written press releases for the better part of the past 10 - 15 years, I'm constantly amazed at what is being sold as a "press release" on the internet.
I'm even more amazed at the hundreds/thousands of dollars being spent on these things with the promise of wide distribution.  It's important to recognize the difference between an actual press release and what is, in effect, an infomercial or marketing spam.
A press release is legitimately newsworthy and is a statement of fact:  who, what, how, when and where.
And sometimes why.
Here is an excerpt from a press release I … (2 comments)

It will explain domain names, keywords and more in plain language that we all can understand.  I hope you all find it as … (4 comments)

internet marketing: Link Building: Removing the Confusion - 05/30/08 05:31 AM
Are you dissatisfied with the results from your website?  There is so much information and technical jargon out there that it all gets ridiculously confusing after a while.
There are a million ways to get links to your site, and without people linking to your site you're going to find it very, very difficult to be found online.  There are millions of websites in existence...how do you get people to link to YOURS?
My friend and colleague, graphic web designer Chad McComsey, created a chart that is far and away the best and simplest explanation of links I've ever seen.

internet marketing: How To Boost Your ROI With Email - 03/12/08 04:25 AM
Technology is powerful in boosting your ROI...as long as it is utilized properly:)
Margaret Kelly, CEO of RE/MAX International, wrote a wonderful article that I read on RISMedia this morning, titled "6 Ways to Boost Marketing ROI With Email."   I encourage all of you to read it by clicking anywhere on the list below, which comes directly from the article:
1. Don’t start your e-mail campaign using e-mail. Attract prospects through traditional marketing techniques and encourage them to opt in to your campaign. You can do this in person or through your website. Be sure to include an opt-out option in every … (0 comments)

internet marketing: OPEN HOUSES: You Can Do This, Too! - 03/12/08 02:42 AM
WOW!  I've got to hand it to Century 21 for leading the way with this.  They're putting open houses on YouTube.  If you want to stay ahead of the game and see the possibilities, click on this link:

Don't wait for your respective company to do this for you.  Be proactive.  It's easy and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Look at the video on this blog.  You can do this very easily yourself.  There are many digital cameras to choose from, but the one I can recommend from personal experience is the Canon PowerShot SD750 (7.1 megapixels), which I bought … (0 comments)
