sandpointidaho: There Is Always a Price to Pay - 02/11/17 01:08 PM
There Is Always a Price to Pay
Today is absolutely gorgeous in Sandpoint North Idaho.  Partly cloudy skies with the crisp clear blue skies one only sees shortly after stormy weather clearing.  The price we are paying in Sandpoint Idaho?
What was already a pretty good task of snow removal has now turned to Snow and ICE removal.  Our weather turned from low 20's and snow to mid 40's and rain within 24 hours.  Ever try snow blowing iced ruts?
Add to that the fact that due to the amount of snow we have had this year it is becoming more and more … (16 comments)

sandpointidaho: 'Ice Damns' and Possible Damage to Your Home - 01/23/17 10:01 PM
'Ice Damns' and Possible Damage to Your Home
We all love the pictures of those warm and cozy living rooms, with a fire burning, and the reflection of the flames dancing on the ice cycles hanging from the roof in front of the living room window.  The dangers to your home behind the seemingly innocent beauty is quite real, and probable.
The basics of an ice damn is moisture on the roof freezing at the edges of the roof where the warmth of the home no longer is heating.  An older home, or poorly insulated home is not automatically the reason.  A … (10 comments)

Pristine and Open - Upper Pack River
Dick Greenberg 's contest this month has shown us some wonderful photo's.  For myself it has also given me some fresh idea's for new innovative shots.
This shot is not of a million dollar home.  Quite the opposite.  Less than $100,000 as an off grid cabin on just over an acre of land.  It has always been one of my favorites.  Showing the vastness about you.  The snow adding to the pristine feel and isolation although only 9 miles from town on a county maintained road.  I wanted people who were looking for a getaway cabin … (6 comments)

sandpointidaho: Sandpoint's Official Christmas Tree Lighting - 11/28/16 03:50 AM
Sandpoint's Official Christmas Tree Lighting
Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is always the official lighting of Sandpoint Idaho's Christmas Tree in the Town Center,  across from Farmin Park.  Santa always has some custom work done to his sleigh in the local North Idaho area and Sandpoint's local Fire Department delivers Santa, for the lighting, to highlight the festivities while his sleigh is being worked on.
This year was not yet filled with snow but continued with rain.  It let up for the lighting and the children were not deterred, with the moisture, in wanting to visit with Santa.

sandpointidaho: Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort Snow Making - 11/24/16 07:39 AM
Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort Snow Making
This has been one of my favorite photographs since first taking it.  At Schweitzer Ski Resort, in Sandpoint Idaho, mid morning with cold temperatures enabling snow making.  The photo shows so much.  The contrasts in colors from the clean sharp white snow, the yellow of the snow making machine, to the deep blue just above the dark trees and ridge. The corduroy design, from a grooming machine, showing the recently spread snow.
From my snow making days I can also appreciate the perfect conditions to create such good snow.  Mid teens in temperatures.  You can see the fresh pile … (7 comments)

1st 2016 Snow on Valley Floors in Sandpoint Idaho
Many would find this a discouraging sight when coming out to their vehicle in the morning.  I am pleased to see the snow finally making it to the valley floors in and around Sandpoint Idaho.  A perfect touch for Thanksgiving today.
By days end yesterday most had melted away but the nearby hills still maintained an artists dusting of white for both visitors and locals to enjoy this Thanksgiving.
This gives hopes for Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort to soon be opened with deep pack and groomed runs. Think snow and enjoy the season.

sandpointidaho: Are you a 'Fan' or just pretending? - 11/21/16 11:29 AM
Are you a 'Fan' or just pretending?
The owner of this trucking company dares prove he is a true 'FAN' !  Driving back, to Sandpoint Idaho, from Coeur D'Alene today I could not help but be in awe of the money spent to prove his loyalty to Seattle Seahawks, who by the way are a full 6 hours away driving time from North Idaho.
Gots to love football season !

As the Temps Drop the Speedometers Should As Well !
I consider this time of year some of the most dangerous on the road.  Maybe no snow falling, definitely none holding on Highways.  Terperatures may be showing mid to high 30's.  Certainly nothing to be concerned about.  Wrong !
While road conditions may look to be ok temps most likely have dropped to freezing the night before.  A thin sheet of black ice early morning will show itself only as wet pavement, if one sees it at all.  While it appeared no injuries or other cars involved at this accident, between Sandpoint and … (6 comments)

Day 3 - Grateful for Halley in Sandpoint Idaho
I would be remiss were I not to mention how fortunate I have been with my 4 legged newfie buddies.  Before Halley, there were Bilbo and then Grizzly.  Both incredibly perfect for where I was at personally at that moment in my life.  I could tell stories of both for days.
Halley continues to amaze me.  She wins me over more and more daily.  As we know unconditional love is what our four legged buddies are best known for. But Halley has given me so much more beyond that.  She has taught me … (14 comments)

Sandpoint Idaho Early Morning with Halley
Early mornings in the North Idaho area presently seem to be partially cloudy with the rains rolling in late morning to early afternoon.  I thought I would take advantage of an early morning walk with Halley in Sandpoint Idaho area to see if I might get lucky with a few good pictures.  I was not dissappointed with either the walk or the pictures.

Never moving - Always Changing
Between Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry Idaho, just off Highway 95, is an abundance of variety in views.  This pasture is one of my favorites to look upon.  Nestled at the base of the Selkirk Mountains it always seem to have a Louis L A'mour type feel to it.  While it obviously never moves, it instead lets the weather bring to it subtle changes every day.  Today was a brief and welcomed break from the constant rain of the past coupld of weeks.

Single clear day between storms - Construction Crews Hustling
With the heavy rains, this fall, many Sandpoint Idaho projects, both city and private, are being rushed to get work buttoned up to a point that the winter weather will not due damage to already completed work.
Enjoy the short YouTube video showing some of the hustling crews and work:
Following the day I took the videos we had torrential rains for about 24 hours straight.  While not as hard, we are expecting another storm Monday after cloudy skies for the weekend.  Good hustle Sandpoint Construction Crews!

North Idaho Landscapes Changing Daily
With winter rapidly closing in on North Idaho we are enjoying the many different and changing scenes offered almost day to day.
Pend Oreille River just west of Sandpoint Idaho with steam rising, off the warmer water, and clouds moving in for the next storm.  This having been yesterday the clouds have wasted no time in bringing forth the hard rains.

A reflection back on 'Chafe 150' 2016 Bicycle Ride
With the Chafe 150 having come and gone I have thought back on not only the ride but the actual time leading up to it quite a few times.  As I reflect back it seems silly to have made such a big deal out of my 80 mile ride in my head.  And yet I know it to be a pretty good accomplishment. This is part 1 of 2.
My Plan:
