Irving Picard, the bankruptcy trustee liquidating Bernie Madoff's assets, has asked a judge to pay him and his law firm, Baker & Hostetler, another $43.2 million for fees and expenses incurred from Oct. 1, 2010, to Jan. 31, 2011.
That's right. Four months.
Picard spent 955 hours - at a pricey $748 per - on the matter, and his law firm logged 116,399 hours at $371 per, according to the New York Post.
Then there's the $1.1 million in expenses.

" YIKES ! "     I pass Madoff's old house every day.    Eventhough the … (6 comments)

palm beach real estate: What does it mean that my home is 'tax deductable'? - 01/10/11 03:51 AM
Do you ever have question's about tax deductions? I strongly recommend that you get yourself hooked up with a good tax professional. For most people, the amount they will save you will be far more than the amount they will charge you. The most frequent tax question that I get asked is "What exactly does it mean when I hear that my home is tax deductible?" Well, I'll explain it in as easy terms as I can using your primary residence as an example since the rules are a little different than when you are dealing with an investment property. (Again, … (6 comments)

palm beach real estate: Mortgage rates hit new low of 4.17% - 11/11/10 04:52 PM
Mortgage rates hit new low of 4.17%
from Marsha Montoya Mayer's Blog
The average rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage dropped to 4.17% this week, yet another new low for Freddie Mac records. Rates have dropped from 4.91% a year ago. They had started inching up again after hitting a low of 4.19% the week of Oct. 14, rising to 4.24% last week, but were driven back down by the Fed's plan to buy $600 billion in Treasury bonds.

The last time we saw rates this low was in 1951, when loan terms were shorter and rules were different, … (1 comments)

palm beach real estate: Comparing Home Costs...bank for your buck - 11/08/10 01:48 AM
Comparing Home Costs...bank for your buck   Comparing Home Costs...bank for your buck{Yes I said "bank" for your buck, instead of bang...}I just spent a week traveling through New Hampshire.  Being that I am "real estate obscessed" and everywhere I visit I want to 'own'...I started studying, viewing and reviewing residential properties in every New Hampshire town I visited. After over 20 years in beautiful, tropical South Florida the attraction and the appeal of the New England Autumn was undeniable...so why not relocate?  Or at least get a lake side summer getaway place?  Right?Well, after reviewing numerous N.H. properties I conclude reality is... palm beach real estate: So now what with the foreclosure moratoriums? - 10/08/10 04:03 PM
So now what with the foreclosure moratoriums?
I suppose everybody has heard about the short sale foreclosure auction moratoriums by now.  Will more Lenders join in out of moral conscience?  Or because a government entitly or the President 'points a finger'?  Or not.  another quandry and major disruption in the Recovery.
I'm glad foreclosures are halting or at least slowing down... for the sake of the people losing their homes.  At least they will gain a little time (maybe 30 to 90 days extra) to re-group.  And fight, if they are so inclined.  But I'm also concerned that the nice supply … (10 comments)

palm beach real estate: St. Ann Catholic School children lead International Day of Peace assembly - 09/21/10 12:19 PM
Posted: 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010

Pinches of salt dropped into a pitcher of water symbolized sorrow and tears, cleansing and healing as children at St. Ann Catholic School led an outdoor assembly to mark the International Day of Peace at noon Tuesday.
The group of 19 - all in grades six to eight - spent about 15 minutes under the direction of teacher Cate Green, singing songs and reciting prayers as they called for peace around the world.
They conveyed a message of "tolerance, respect, integrity" and "compassion and patience" in front of the rest of the school's children gathered on … (0 comments)

palm beach real estate: Florida sees increase in international buyers - 09/21/10 10:32 AM
Florida sees increase in international buyers
ORLANDO, Fla. - Sept. 21, 2010 - A number of factors contributed to the decline in home sales nationally and in Florida specifically, but the growing importance of foreign homebuyers has offset some of the damage. Roughly two out of every three Realtors in the state had at least one international transaction within the past year. While U.S. buyers continue to struggle, foreign buyers generally see U.S. real estate as a desirable, profitable and secure investment. In addition, a weak U.S. dollar has made Florida real estate even more attractive recently. The National Association of Realtors®, in … (4 comments)
