But those sky-high rents and prices are set to only go higher given a looming apartment and condo crunch.
We need as many as 435,000 new apartments, condos and homes here in the Boston area over the next quarter century to meet demand and ensure the local economy keeps growing robustly, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council finds in a new report out this morning.

If you think Massachusetts home prices are high now, just wait until next year!
The median sale price of Massachusetts homes could hit $355,000 next year, up from just under $325,000 during the first ten months of 2013, Tim Warren, chief executive of The Warren Group, predicts in this Globe piece.
So what's the big deal? Well that would actually bring local home prices back to levels not seen since 2005, during the peak of the housing bubble.
As you may or may not recall, 2005 was a great year to sell a house, but not so much to buy one.

Last month marked the best September for Massachusetts single-family homes sales since 2005, according to the latest report by The Warren Group, publisher of Banker & Tradesman.A total of 4,358 single-family homes sold in Massachusetts in September, a 16 percent increase from 3,739 sales in September 2012. Sales also increased in the third quarter - rising to 16,097 from 13,957 during the same period in 2012. Year-to-date sales are up by 12 percent at 37,757, compared to 35,590 during the same period a year ago.
