Recently I 'became of age' and am now eligible for Medicare benefits.  Nevada also provides a secondary carrier "Senior Dimensions"....my premiums for both of these are less than $100 a month - which is REALLY nice since I was paying almost $400 per month previously.   We were unaware until this year that Nevada even offered a 'no charge' supplement to Medicare....it's true, it's FREE (or at least no more than what you are normally charged for Medicare, which is an automatic deduction from your Social Security check).  The premium that is paid through your Social Security check to pay the Medicare … (8 comments)

aging: GETTING THE GOVERNMENT TO PAY FAMILY CAREGIVERS - 03/29/08 02:31 PM
Three government programs can provide funds to pay family caregivers.  These three are:
Self-directed initiatives under state Medicaid programsThe veterans aid and attendance benefit Medicaid spend down using caregiver agreements.  Caregiver agreements must also be used in obtaining the veterans aid and attendance benefit income.  Consultants who are qualified to design and implement these caregiver contracts must be used.  This is not a do-it-yourself project.  The National Care Planning Council will be releasing a veterans benefits consultant's training package in the first week of April, 2008 to teach practitioners how to do caregiver agreements.

aging: Sage Words on Aging...... - 08/04/07 03:21 PM
I received this via e-mail today...I thought it very appropriate after a full week of working:
"I've sure gotten old! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medicationsthat make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation; hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But, thank God, I still have my driver's license."
