holidays: Fourth of July 2008 Ramblings - 07/05/08 02:59 AM
My husband in his usual patriotic way dressed in the royal red, white and blue that he has dressed in every Independence Day since the 1970s.  The material the pants are made out of is the old polyester double knit, which like the energizer bunny just keeps going and going and going. Our kids love to tell the stories of 4th of July parties, or 4th of July church functions, or working in fire works stands and their dad wore this outfit and it is one of their earliest memories (maybe he wore it the day they were born!)

holidays: A Politically Correct Christmas Greeting - 12/24/07 10:15 AM
A Politically Correct Christmas Greeting
Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, but with respect for the religious persuasion of others who choose to practice their own religion as well as those who choose not to practice a religion at all; Additionally,a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make our society great, without regard … (6 comments)

holidays: A Great Idea!!! - 11/25/07 04:30 PM
It's that time of year again, time to start working on Christmas cards...we received our first one on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  So I went Christmas card shopping today and will be slowly addressing our cards.
Our troops give up so much of themselves and ask so little in return.  Many come back injured and spend time in the hospital and rehab...lets remember them with a Christmas card.   When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please include the following:
A Recovering American Soldier          c/o Walter Reed Army Medical  Center          6900 Georgia Avenue,NW          Washington,D.C. 20307-5001   or

holidays: LET'S SAY THANKS! - 11/10/07 08:22 AM
This is something cool that Xerox is doing:  If you go to this web site, , you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.
What an awesome idea! Wouldn't it be AMAZING if we could get everyone we know to send one!!!  This is one great site.
Please take the time to send a card and show our soldiers how much we care!  It is … (8 comments)

holidays: Happy Halloween! - 10/31/07 07:10 AM
Some fun Halloween pictures to enjoy....
After church last Sunday there was a church sponsored Pumpkin Patch.  Every child was allowed to pick out one pumpkin and take it home, there was also a jump house as well as photos being taken with each child and the "Pumpkin Man."
The school that is run by the church also held a Halloween Carnival on Friday evening, raising funds for the graduating senior's class trip.
What fun to watch the children fishing for gold fish, throwing darts at balloons, and the Pastor being dunked in the dunk tank because the goal of $2,000 was raised!

holidays: Post 4th of July Thoughts... - 07/05/07 05:05 AM
Every year my husband loves to do his part to shows his patriotism, or so he says!  I think it's more for the 'attention".  The pants were bought in 1972 (so they are 35 years old!).  And yes he has worn this outfit EVERY  4th of July since then!  He's also worn it on Presidential election days.
The shirt had to be replaced once over the years but the pants are the same.  They are made of the old 'polyester double knit'...remember those days?  So they kind of stretch with the rest of him...but I should be so lucky to be able to fit … (9 comments)

holidays: It's that Time of Year Again! - 06/24/07 05:03 PM
Today, June 25, 2007, is hump day!  It comes every year at this exact time...6 more months until Christmas!  Are you ready?  My husband works for Dillards Dept. Store...according to him the holiday stock starts arriving the first of August...that's only 4-5 weeks away!  Are you excited yet?
It's amazing that the holiday season seems to arrive earlier and earlier every year.  Give me a break!   When I was a kid...they were advertising school supplies and new school clothes at this time of the year.  Now the store employees are dreading the 4-5 months of holiday music already!
I love holidays a lot, I love … (11 comments)

holidays: Flag Day - 06/14/07 03:30 PM
As I left the house this morning I noticed little flags planted in the ground at the edge of all the lawns up and down the street.  My complex, Braewood Heritage Square, sets these little flags out on many of the holidays during the year...I'm thinking "hmm, this isn't the 4th of July, this isn't Veterans day, this isn't Memorial Day, I wonder why the flags are out today"...then it dawned on is a one of those 'minor holidays''s Flag Day!  What a beautiful jester this is to to honor our flag in this way.  How sad it is that June 14th means nothing … (0 comments)
