marysellslv: Why Women Should Vote - 09/27/08 12:37 PM
WHY WOMEN SHOULD VOTE
Seems like many have an excuse for not voting - 'my candidate is not winning in the polls, so why bother?', 'no one stands for all the issues that I feel are important, so I'll not vote', 'my vote doesn't really count, the decision is made before I even have a chance to get to the polls!'    There's MANY excuses for NOT voting but lets all remember what our ancestors before us did to make voting a RIGHT, not an option or a chore as so many make it today....especially the women's right to vote.

marysellslv: YES, There ARE Advantages to Getting Older - 09/24/08 06:10 AM
Recently I 'became of age' and am now eligible for Medicare benefits.  Nevada also provides a secondary carrier "Senior Dimensions"....my premiums for both of these are less than $100 a month - which is REALLY nice since I was paying almost $400 per month previously.   We were unaware until this year that Nevada even offered a 'no charge' supplement to Medicare....it's true, it's FREE (or at least no more than what you are normally charged for Medicare, which is an automatic deduction from your Social Security check).  The premium that is paid through your Social Security check to pay the Medicare … (8 comments)

marysellslv: Cure Alls for Most Everything - 09/23/08 06:36 AM
ELIMINATE EAR MITES All it takes is a few drops of  Wesson Corn Oil in your cat's ear... massage it in, then  clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil  soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and  accelerates healing.

KILL FLEAS INSTANTLY Dawn Dish Washing Liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and  shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Good-bye fleas

marysellslv: HAPPINESS IS FREEDOM - 09/01/08 08:22 AM
GET YOUR FLAG READY !   On Thursday, September 11th, 2008, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States. Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this seventh anniversary of one our country's worst tragedies. We do this in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms. In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed … (12 comments)

marysellslv: The Proof is in the Picture! - 08/31/08 04:13 PM

My son-in-law (John) on the left is probably the best thing that ever happened to our daughter.  He's an awesome guy and we love him like a son!  His biggest fault is he's NOT a McCain follower - in his opinion he doesn't want more of the same as the last eight years.   We've had many discussions over this and I will continue to try to sway him....but for now I've got him good with this one. John is in marketing and the other day someone from McCain Potatoes was in his office, so he managed to get his … (20 comments)

marysellslv: What's Wrong Here? - 08/24/08 11:40 AM
So, I'm getting ready to go out and went to put my make-up on and there's NONE left!  My husband being the awesome guy he is, volunteered to go to the local, nearby  'better' department store and pick me up some. This makeup is not the cheapest in the world .... it's about $40 a bottle (regular price)....I'm all out, I have a gift certificate so it's worth the price and not driving to the outlet mall to pick it up....or so I thought.
He goes to the cosmetic counter and tells the clerk 'I want one just like this'....same brand, … (12 comments)

marysellslv: The Bias of Medical Care Providers Towards Aging - 08/17/08 03:15 PM
Several years ago I earned a National Association of REALTORS® designation which better qualified me for working with a growing age group in this world - 55+. The Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES) classes taught us about the special needs of the senior citizen. Although I'm in this age group it is still good to be taught and know all of the special needs. There's age restricted communities to think about (the pro's and cons of living in one of these communities), proximity to hospitals and doctors offices; when selling do you want to buy something smaller or move into an … (6 comments)

marysellslv: NV, Las Vegas: The Monsoons Have Arrived - 08/07/08 05:45 PM

This afternoon as I left the office around 3pm and sauntered out into the 104°, I was not surprised by the overcast skies, the distant roar of thunder, and an occasional streak of lightening to the southeast..  It's not uncommon for Las Vegas to have monsoon storms during the months of July and August.
The temperature dropped quickly as the storm rolled in (down to 85°).  As I drove towards home the rain started to fall, and it came down fast and furiously.  The roads flood quickly here in these kinds of rains.  2" of rain in 45 minutes is … (11 comments)

marysellslv: THIS IS HAPPENING RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY! - 08/06/08 06:16 PM
We Must Stop This Immediately! Have you noticed that stairs are getting steeper .  Groceries are heavier .  And, everything is farther away.  Yesterday I walked to the corner and I was dumbfounded to discover how long   our street had become!

And, you know, people are less considerate now, especially the young ones.  They speak in whispers all the time!  If you ask them to speak up they just keep repeating themselves, endlessly mouthing the same silent message until they're red in the face!  What do they think I am, a lip reader?

I also think they are much … (29 comments)

marysellslv: Who Says Global Warming? - 08/01/08 06:01 PM

Las Vegas has always been noted for it's HIGH temps during the months of June, July, and August.  Normally in July Las Vegas has 115º temps at least twice.
The picture to the left was taken during the summer of 2007 in the middle of July.  The time is 5:30 p.m. Now THAT IS HOT!   But it seems July 2008 was unusual cool....the highest 'official' temperature (normally taken at McCarran Airport) for July 2008 was ONLY 111º.
Will the cooling trend continue for the month of August? We'll see....today, the first day of August, the 'official' high was 108º.  … (12 comments)

marysellslv: NV, Las Vegas: Market Stats - 07/26/08 04:37 AM

The best time to buy Las Vegas Real Estate is NOW.  There is currently less on the market but there is still MUCH  for sale.  Many bank owned properties are dealing with multiple offers, I'm seeing and dealing with it everyday.  Sellers are becoming more realistic with their pricing, and not trying to get the money out of their home that they would have got a few years ago....property sales are currently just above what they were when the market went wild a few years ago and everything sold overnight.  In my humble opinion the 'correcting' has been done.

marysellslv: Unknown VA Benefits - 07/22/08 04:03 PM
I subscribe to an e-mail newsletter provided by the National Care Planning Council.  It is an awesome resource for information for senior citizens with everything from assisted living, to insurance options, medicare help, elder care law info, and VA benefits, to name just a few.  Today I received this information from them on VA benefits for long term care....not just for the vet but for the spouse of the vet (even if he/she was never a veteran).  It's great information to have to pass onto our senior clients.
A valuable government benefit is simply going to waste because hardly anyone is … (6 comments)

marysellslv: Who Will Be Our Next First Lady? Part 2 - 07/22/08 04:23 AM

Earlier this month I started a two-part series with a post entitled Who Will Be Our Next First First Lady? Part 1. In all fairness I now present the other side with a tribute to another smart woman who stands behind her man -  Michelle Obama.

Michelle  graduated from Princeton University with a BA in Social Studies and went on to Havard Law School graduating in 1988. In 1993, she became the founding executive director of Public Allies - Chicago, a leadership training program and helped young adults develop skills for careers in the public sector. She developed the … (11 comments)

marysellslv: Who Will Be Our Next First Lady? Part 1 - 07/12/08 02:46 AM
Bet you'd never guess this one! No matter your politics. The media will never tell of this.

GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal on Cindy McCain, John's wife. All I ever saw was this attractive woman standing beside John. I was surprised how talented and involved with world problems she is. This is a summary of the article.

She graduated from Southern Cal and was a special-needs teacher. After her Dad died she became involved with his beer distributing firm and is now the chairwoman. Sales have doubled since she has … (29 comments)

marysellslv: For All of Us Who are Retired or Thinking of Retiring - 07/11/08 02:48 AM
Thought those of you who are in the baby boomer stage, and either retired or working towards retirement, might enjoy a few of these 'bumper stickers'.....if we can't beat it we might as well enjoy it!  I particularly like the one on Florida (especially if you're living and working there).  I'd love to redesign it for Las Vegas!  Hope you enjoy them all!

marysellslv: Won't You Help Brandon? - 07/09/08 04:58 PM
Brandon Rayner is 10 years old and a patient at Sunrise Children's Hospital in Las Vegas, battling Leukemia. Brandon has had problems since he was 2 years old and has already survived not one but TWO brain surgeries....he is a REAL trooper! Currently there is a search on to match his bone marrow. I'm not sure where you would go for this testing - but it only takes about 30 seconds and involves putting a Q-tip like thingy in your mouth and taking some saliva.
Brandon is currently collecting business cards in an attempt to get his name in the Guinness … (1 comments)
