master agent life: 3 Reasons You're NOT a Top Agent and What To DO About it - 02/16/14 09:46 PM

So you're not a top agent. Perhaps you're not even a medicore one. You have no clue how those other agents get to that point where they're doing such huge volume. You're busy all day every day chasing down leads, working with clients, and trying to salvage the deals you do have. Personal life? What personal life? You can barely keep up with everything you have... how can you possibly grow your business?
If that sounds like you or close to it, here's what's wrong:
It all boils down to 3 main issues. Scheduling, Organizing, and Prospecting. Let's break them … (9 comments)

master agent life: Realtor: Service Professional or Tour Guide? - 11/27/12 09:59 PM
Okay so this is truly applicable to anyone in business but Realtors take notice... Think about how this relates to working with home buyers. Are you doing a client intake session or are you just a tour guide of what's on the market??

This is from Seth Godin's blog today. Let's dissect it for the real estate agent. My notes are in italics and parentheses.
Avoiding "I'll know it when I see it" This is a waste for the buyer and the seller.
When you have a business or individual waiting for you to bring them custom work (houses to … (4 comments)

master agent life: NAR 2012: Best Expo Finds - 11/16/12 03:51 AM
Let me begin by saying that I am a HUGE fan of the NAR annual event with the expo being my absolute favorite part. I love spending an entire day (or two) perusing through new ideas and new technology and getting lots of brochures and cards to sort through at home later. I have been to several NAR events and have experienced it as a Realtor, as an exhibitor, and as a speaker, all at different times throughout my 19 year real estate career. That being said...
The NAR 2012 event was the most disappointing one I have ever attended. I … (3 comments)

master agent life: The Evernote Smart Notebook: How To Guide- Handwriting Made Searchable - 11/08/12 03:34 AM
Ok so I received by brand new Moleskine smart notebook today. Like any self-respecting techie, I immediately tore off the plastic cover and began playing with my new "toy".

So... I made a note in the notebook. I wrote in print and in cursive to see if the evernote system would be able to figure out my terrible hand-writing. Did it need to be perfect or could I just scrawl as normal? I put a sticker on the front, identifying the note as work-related, and took a picture with my evernote app on my iPhone.
Did the note … (7 comments)

master agent life: Evernote and Moleskine: Genius Real Estate Combo! - 11/05/12 02:24 AM
Evernote and Moleskine have combined for a genius effort and have created smart notebooks. Are you using them yet?? I just ordered my smart notebook this morning and am really looking forward to testing this out. I'll post again as soon as I get mine and start playing with it. Essentially, you jot down your notes and then take a picture with your phone. Your note is automatically turned into a searchable digital file in your evernote account. The notebook also comes with stickers. When placed on your note page prior to photo taking, these stickers sort your notes into categories. … (3 comments)

master agent life: Real Estate & Wonder Woman: Unleashing Your Super Power - 10/21/12 10:43 PM
It starts with organization. Not the kind of organization you may be used to hearing about where everything is perfectly filed and alphabetized, but the kind of organization that works for you as a chaos-cravin' crazy lady of real estate. Wonder Woman definitely had chaos in her life. I mean c'mon, she chased bad guys for a living! Real Estate is our version of the chasing bad guys kind of chaos: It happens randomly at unexpected times, we have to drop everything and go, and somehow everything has to run smoothly in our absence and we need to arrive back home … (23 comments)

master agent life: Dress Like a Lady: Does "Sexy" Have a Place in Business Attire? - 10/09/12 12:40 AM

Paula McDonald wrote an incredible post yesterday about how a Realtor lost a client due to her cleavage. That brings up a seriously interesting topic: How should women dress when they want to be professional and taken seriously yet also feel sexy and feminine? While, as Paula (and many of her commenters) mentioned, many women seem to take sexy to the extreme nowadays and post their cleavage out on display the same as a fisherman would put a worm on a hook to lure and catch his prized fish. Is that truly sexy though? Is there anything about skirts … (78 comments)

master agent life: What Real Estate School Left Out... A Case Study - 10/03/12 04:57 AM
Have you noticed how everyone who exits real estate school and subsequently passes the state exam, gaining their illustrious license, has NO IDEA how to be a real estate agent?? When I originally got my license (waaaay back when), I decided to be an assistant, was one for a solid two years, and then STILL had a lot to learn when I eventually struck out on my own. The thing is... even after doing ALL of that and then taking classes with the brokerage I chose, there was STILL something missing from my real estate education.
No one taught me how … (3 comments)

master agent life: Watch Your Mouth! How What You Say Can Hurt You & Your Business - 09/20/12 11:11 PM
As sales people, first and foremost we are PEOPLE people. We have to know intrinsically how to get into someone's head, how to understand them, how to offer them what they need so that, ultimately, we can help them. As a larger group of sales people, it's important we understand that there actually IS enough business out there for everyone and so it's better to share and help others and be present when co-broking a deal with another agent. You are not giving the competition a leg up over you... you are building a good name for the industry, helping others, … (9 comments)

master agent life: Pay Attention! The Little Things You Miss... - 09/15/12 05:23 AM
There are a million tiny details that happen either to us or around us every single day. Those details, all those little things, truly are there for us, and many times we miss them simply because we don't pay attention. When we miss all the detail, all the substance, what are we left with? Essentially nothing. We missed it.  So... What exactly am I talking about?? I'm talking about the simple beauty of life, about those little moments that could easily bring us peace, tranquility, focus, love, awe, positive emotion of all kinds... If we only paid attention. This post may … (6 comments)

master agent life: Another Great Lesson from Seth Godin- Be a Tribal Leader! - 09/14/12 02:31 AM
Have you read any of Seth Godin's work? Perhaps you've heard of The Purple Cow and have learned how to set yourself apart in the marketplace. That's a great start... I receive Seth's blog and I love it. Everyday I get a little reminder and am ALWAYS able to relate it to my business in some way.  Today's blog was actually about freelance work.
Here's the link:
If You Want to Get Paid For Your Freelance Work
Seth makes mention there of building your tribe. If you haven't heard of that, it basically means building a group of people who will … (1 comments)

master agent life: Connecting Virtually: Does it Pack the Same Punch? - 09/10/12 10:20 PM
This morning, like every morning, I look forward to receiving my email from Seth Godin. He has a wonderful blog that always gets me thinking... lots of lessons in those little emails. This morning, in reference to the anniversary of September 11th, 2001, he made mention of memories and the media. How throughout the past, we've had our memories associated with real life and how now that is happening less and less as we entrench ourselves in a digital age of "140 character burst updates". I find that extremely interesting. As adults, and as likely many of us here are over … (1 comments)

master agent life: The First Step in Eliminating Negative Chaos - 09/06/12 11:29 PM
We all have a craving for chaos... It's what pulled us into the real estate industry to begin with. We may feel crazy and stressed out but that's because we have so much negative chaos in our lives. There is a HUGE difference between positive and negative chaos.
Positive chaos is what we truly love; that wonderful feeling of being busy with exciting and full lives that we immensely enjoy. Positive chaos makes us feel fulfilled.
Negative chaos is what sends us over the edge; that terrible feeling of having too much going on, feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, frustrated, and pulled … (3 comments)

master agent life: The BIG GAPING HOLE in the Real Estate Industry - 09/02/12 01:55 PM
Hi,

*disclaimer... long read but worth it, I promise!*

I'm Angela and I started Master Agent Life to fill a giant gap in the industry. So, you're thinking, "so what... who are you, what is this "gap" you speak of, and how did you manage to fill it?". Well basically the truth is I'm not that much different from you... In working with agents all over the country, I discovered many of us are struggling with the same problems and these problems have not been addressed by anyone in the industry. In order for you to understand what I … (8 comments)

master agent life: What's Holding You Back... The Deep Down Dirt - 07/24/12 04:43 AM
I'm going to share a very personal story with you... the story of what has held me back in my life and I ask that you read it, and ask yourself the very same question,"What is holding ME back?". Hopefully it creates the breakthrough for you that it has for me and sees you through much future success.
Like many people who have chosen the real estate industry for their career, I am energetic, ambitious, full of life, friendly, social, and enjoy a little bit of crazy in my day. I'm a risk taker... not afraid to get myself out there … (4 comments)

In today's world, we know how important these things are yet many of us don't take them seriously. Incorporate these three major items into your business and watch your life and business soar into the clouds of perfection.

master agent life: Evernote: Are You Missing Out?? - 06/26/12 11:45 PM
Evernote... you may have heard of this incredible app. You may even have it downloaded. The big question is, are you truly getting the most out of this powerhouse of an app and utilizing it for every single one of your real estate needs?
People in real estate tend towards being disorganized. Now, don't get me wrong... there are definitely some organized agents out there but the majority of us are sorely lacking when it comes to clean uncluttered desks, immaculately maintained file folders, and crisp clean notebooks. Evernote has the capability of ending the chaotic madness IF you use it … (31 comments)

master agent life: The #1 Reason You're Losing Business & How to Fix the Problem - 06/21/12 09:33 AM
As real estate agents, we tend to have what I call, "If Only" syndrome. "If Only" I had this lead source, "If Only" I had extra time in the day, "If Only" I had this techno-gadget, "If Only" I could get organized. The ONLY problem we really have and the one that keeps geting in our way time and time again and also the SAME one that prevents us from doing truck loads more business than we are right now is... CHAOS!
Chaos gets in our way every single day and in more ways than you realize. Did you lose a … (38 comments)

So you carry it around with you and play Angry Birds and check your email... Oh that's right! You have your phone for those things already! master agent life: The 5 Biggest Mistakes Agents Make When Strategizing Their Business - 06/21/12 06:30 AM
While we all know it's important to have a strategy when it comes to planning our business, we base those strategies upon what others have told us is true:
1. We need to be organized
2. We need to be structured
3. We need to block our time
4. We need a marketing plan
5. We need to follow-up
So... what's wrong with these things? Nothing whatsoever... except for the fact that we as real estate agents typically have problems doing any of them. I have yet to meet an organized real estate agent. The fact is, the chaos involved in … (4 comments)
