Bellaire city council made changes to the proposed 2014 budget in late August as a result of numerous requests heard that the public hearing related to Bellaire Little League's request for inclusion in the budget. Letters read into the record of the public hearing favored providing funding to complete the development of Horn Park located at Avenue B and Pine, behind the Horn Academy Elementary School. The league has raised a substantial amount of money through private fundraising and asked for the City's support to finish development. The Sixth Annual Wine & Tapas Event is coming up in October. “Imagine the Possibilities” is the theme this year and appropriately so. The net proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Bellaire’s Evelyn’s Park. And, we have all started imagining the possibilities, as the designs are now prominently displayed on the property. The is event will happen on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the site of Evelyn’s Park at Newcastle and Bellaire Boulevard, 4400 Bellaire Boulevard, from 6 to 10pm. We all heard about it but what did it mean for Bellaire when voters approved a $1.89 billion bond to replace and repair schools across the district? The key projects impacting Bellaire which will be funded by the bond are a new campus for Bellaire High School as well as converting the Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion School from an elementary school into a K-8 program. The Board of Education has also agreed to rebuild Condit Elementary either through the sale of surplus district property or by using any potential leftover bond funds. Bellaire officials and residents hope to have a new ~$675,000 great lawn and pavilion at Bellaire Town Square by the end-of-the year. The Bellaire Town Square Multi-Purpose Great Lawn Construction Project includes construction of a pavilion and landscaping work to create a multipurpose lawn area to be used for community events. It is one of a multi-phased approach of the Bellaire Town Square Master Plan. Other phases included the Aquatic Center, Donor Plaza and Loftin Park. The fifth annual Tents in Town urban campout is set for this Saturday, April 6th, and will benefit the improvement and expansion of Bellaire Town Square. Patrons for Bellaire Parks and the City of Bellaire Parks and Recreation Department are co-hosting the event. Campers are encouraged to be creative and decorate their tents. The event includes S‘mores and ice cream and local band “Strange Days” will be returning with a song list of crowd-pleasing favorites. The Alumni and Friends of Bellaire High School, a non-profit organization, has hosted the Bellaire Fall Fever 5K Fun Run/Walk and the Children's One-Mile Race for years. This year's 15th annual event will be on Saturday November 17, 2012, at Bellaire High School. Join fellow four-legged friends on October 13, 2012 at 8:30am for the annual Howl-O-Ween dog parade and costume contest. We’ve been several years now and have seen tigers and witches and bears, oh my!
It’s $10 per pet to enter and the pet must have a license. Register at the Bellaire Recreation Center using this form. The parade occurs makes a short loop at Bellaire Town Square.
Prizes will be awarded to those with the best costumes. Categories include Best Costume and Best in Show for both Large and Small Dog Categories.
The winner of the Texas Recreation & Park Society 2012 Lone Star Recreation Programming Achievement Award is The Great Pumpkin Hunt! You won’t want to miss it on Thursday, October 25th, at 4pm in Loftin park in Bellaire, TX. It’s for 10 & under and it’s free admission.
The kids should come dressed in their Halloween best and will get to hunt for toy, candy & prize filled pumpkins in the park! Please bring a canned good for the Houston Food Bank so we can give back to the community that gives so much to us.

Dive-in with the dinosaurs as you swim and watch the movie Jurassic Park. You may be floating and having fun but, on the big screen, it will be an exciting race for survival as a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run wild. It was a Spain-inspired Father's Day for the Stanley's with sangria, grilled paella, and flan making up the menu. Here's the sangria recipe: Sangria Ingredients: 1 Bottle of Rioja or other red wine 1 Lemon cut into wedges 1 Orange cut into wedges 2 Tbsp sugar 1 Shot brandy 2 Cups ginger ale or club soda Preparation: Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon and orange into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sugar and brandy. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving. (1 comments)
