The solar powered off-grid classroom in Hana Maui is the first of its kind, and was built by the young people of the community as part of a hands-on training program called Ma Ka Hana Ka 'Ike - "in working, one learns".  High school kids and recent graduates completed the classroom in time for the fall school session this year.

Everybody wants to save money. One way to save money is by putting photovoltaic panels on the roof of your home.  Here in Hawaii it really makes sense with some of the highest rates in the nation for electricity.

Largest solar panel project in Maui County history is underway
This week Mayor Alan Arakawa announced that contracts have been awarded in order to install the largest solar panel project in Maui County history.  A wide range of people across the County government supported the idea and made it happen.  At least 1,000 photovoltaic panels will be up and running by the end of the year on these County properties on 3 islands (Maui, Molokai and Lanai).  This project will save taxpayers a lot of money since our electric rates are among the highest in the nation.  Alternative energy is alive and well … (7 comments)
