Here's a quick report of the real estate market activity in my part of the island, Haiku. It covers a large area and there is so much diversity that it's really hard to make any comparisons, but if you follow the market you might find some interesting bits. At this point, it looks like sales volume is up from last year, and maybe even prices are up. Obviously there is a lot of inventory of large parcels and expensive parcels. I've always wondered why there's no goat milk ice cream. You know, some people can't tolerate cow milk, but sheep or goat milk is usually fine. Well today I found a vendor at the Upcountry Farmer's Market in Pukalani Maui who was selling goat ice cream! They make it themselves at Haleakala Creamery, a boutique farm in Kula Maui. Caramel sauce is their primary product.
Of course I had to taste it to see if it was just a little goaty tasting, haha. But it was no goaty, and it was just like "normal" ice cream. So don't be scared to try … (12 comments)

Did you know agave plants grow on Maui?
I was quite surprised to see this field planted with agave while viewing a large estate for sale in upcountry Maui Hawaii. Why not grow agave plants? They seem to be doing well and probably don't need a lot of water and maintenance. Maybe this crop could be planted in the central valley where the sugar cane used to grow.... organic Maui tequila could be huge!

Olowalu is an oceanfront community on Maui with a historically significant shoreline of sandy and rocky beaches. If you live in the countryside, like in Haiku Maui, or maybe Makawao or Kula, you're going to need some gravel from time to time. I'm talking a truckload, not just a little scoop. After a rainy season your gravel road might need freshening up. Maybe you want to improve your Maui property for sale and make the driveway nice, with no pot holes or mud. Who you gonna call?

Harvesting some wild Haiku Maui honey for Christmas
We were blessed to have some honey bees move into an old shed and build their hive here on our Haiku Maui farm. They have been very busy because there was a huge amount of honey combs inside when we took a quick peek. Luckily a friend and neighbor who has his own hives suggested he could remove the queen bee and the colony to his nearby location. He even offered to leave us with the honey since he already has plenty.
