I put together a short little video at at the Peahi Dragon Fruit Farm, a new start up in Haiku Maui. These fruits are so exotic looking and also very tasty and easy to grow if you know what to do. My friend let me take the videos and gave me some stems to start my own plants! I'm really excited to see how they do.

Stop in at this little farm stand by Ho'okipa Beach Park on Maui's north shore. Grab yourself an ice cold coconut ready for drinking the sweet coconut water! This is the way it was intended, never mind buying it in a bottle at the grocery store.

Springtime in Hawaii - tropical flowers are blooming.
There's no end to the beautiful flowers in Hawaii. Here's some colorful hibiscus flowers growing at the Hawaiian Sea Spirits Organic Vodka Distillery, in Kula Maui. On a recent tour we enjoyed the grounds and the sugar cane plants. It's a beautiful spot to take a tour and enjoy the scenery too.
What kind of tropical flowers are easy to grow? Many kinds are very easy!
Some you just start from cuttings, stuck in some soil.
It's easy to put down roots in the Maui soil.

We love to garden and grow food, which is very easy to do in Haiku Maui. It's nice to have friends who share this passion, and bring us new plants to try. Over the years we have incorporated a lot of great herbs into our gardens.
From right to left: chili peppers; oregano; turmeric; my chickens!

Disclaimer - it's not about building materials, but more about lifestyle.
During this past Hurricane Lane event that happened in Hawaii in August, it was a good feeling knowing we were completely prepared in so many ways. Strong winds knocked down trees, which knocked down power lines, causing loss of electricity for thousands of homes. My cute chicken house in Haiku Maui - happy chickens!
My laying chickens are now happily housed in their own little chicken coop at the end of our yard where we can keep an eye on them.
You might remember these hens when they were in their "chicken tractor" which was a pretty good setup until they got full size. It was a bit crowded for all 8 of them at the time. What's the price of gas in Kula Maui in May 2018?
Here at Calasa Garage, 4836 Lower Kula Rd the price of gas is $3.95 a gallon for regular. $4.15 for premium.
If you're driving around Upcountry Maui looking for a home to buy in Kula or Ulupalakua, there's a lot of ground to cover and you might run out of gas. Be sure to stop in at one of the local gas and service stations to fuel up and maybe even get your annual safety sticker or oil change.

We got to attend a YELP event at the Kihei Maui Outback Steak House last month, to sample some of the new menu items they're rolling out at all their locations. It was a well attended sit down meal for about 50 Yelpers and friends. We were treated like royalty, and the food and drinks just kept on coming! So many delicious things to try.

It's gardenia season on Maui - spring is in the air.
I love this time of year when the gardenias are blooming and their lovely fragrance fills the air! We moved to Hawaii in the spring and I remember how wonderful it was to be surrounded with their heady scent. Now it always reminds me of our first days of living here on this "best island in the world".

Who wants to grow some cacao, or chocolate trees? You can find some properties for sale on Maui with cacao trees growing. More and more people are planting some of these trees just for fun, and some are planning to go with commercial production. They do well in Haiku with the mild climate and ample rain.

The Thai Mee Up food truck in Kahului has been doing such good business they now have a second truck serving their delicious Thai food in Pukalani, at the Kulamalu Town Center next to Longs Drugs.

Aloha Friday from Haiku Maui - not so leaping lizard
These little green lizards like to hang out in the garden and I hope they're eating lots of little bugs that damage my plants. There's plenty for everyone!
Don't confuse these guys with geckos who tend to be inside homes and leave their little poops on the windowsills and elsewhere.
And of course you can find a home for sale in Haiku and grow your own lizards!

Maui banks and mortgages. When it comes to buying a home in Hawaii, we strongly urge you to use a local bank or lender, since some mainland lenders won't fund to Hawaii. It's an awful feeling to find this out at the last minute, when you're all set to close on a house sale and things go off track due to the lender. The Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani is a great gathering place for community events. Wedding parties, graduation celebrations, family reunions, or whatever your needs are, this facility can probably accomodate your crowd. Plenty of parking on 2 levels with shady trees. Wheelchair access makes it easy to bring everybody. Planning a get together will 500 people? Not a problem here.

Extreme sports video alert!
We were lucky to pull up to this scenic viewpoint just on the edge of Polipoli State Park in Kula Maui one day, as the paragliders were getting ready to launch. They get in position and pop their kites up so fast you can blink and miss it. Luckily I was ready with my iPhone camera for this guy as he got ready. With some help from his buddy he got positioned, and off he went into the clouds! You won't catch me doing that!
