hawaii life: Great selection of new listings in Pukalani Maui, Nov. 2016 - 11/19/16 09:41 AM
Another great selection of new listings are available in Pukalani Maui, and they were available for agents to see on Nov. 17, 2016 at our monthly meet-up and Caravan event.
I'd like to say Thanks to Fidelity National Title for organizing and hosting these meetings year after year.
We saw 6 homes for sale, all priced under $1M, and I can tell you it's refreshing to see these nice properties that are somewhat "affordable" for many people.

hawaii life: Maui County buys a big chunk of the North Shore for open space - 11/14/16 05:28 AM
Maui County buys a big chunk of the North Shore in Haiku, and promises to make it open space for public use.  This is great news for people who want to watch the surfing and windsurfing action at the Jaws surf break in Peahi.  This location has been growing in popularity as more and more people want to challenge the famous waves.  These days, big wave surfing events are being held which really puts a spotlight on the location.  The amount of traffic that comes with an event is incredible, and it's not safe to drive down the rutted roads.  Currently … (4 comments)

hawaii life: Mana Foods in Paia Maui is expanding and improving - 09/24/16 08:50 AM
Mana Foods in Paia Maui is expanding and improving.  Over the past year or more the little health food store in Paia has been undergoing a lot of changes.  Last summer they added on to the south side of the building, and this summer they have been adding on to the north end.  It's no wonder, as this is a very popular and busy grocery store on the north shore.  They have been a good part of the community for over 30 years!

hawaii life: Wailuku Country Estates update, Wailuku Maui Hawaii - 09/21/16 01:24 PM
Homes for Sale in Wailuku Country Estates, Wailuku Maui
Why do people live here? It's a country lifestlye without being "way out there" in the country. You're only a few minutes drive from Wailuku and Kahului, the central commercial hub of Maui, but so far removed from all that busy activity. At Wailuku Country Estates you can have acres of land where you can engage in farming and also have a nice home in a community with like-minded home owners.  Building design guidelines ensure a quality neighborhood that you can be proud of.
West Maui Mountains form a dramatic back drop, and the … (2 comments)

hawaii life: Aloha and farewell to Makena Beach and Golf Resort on Maui - 07/03/16 12:02 PM
The Makena Beach and Golf Resort in Makena Maui has closed it's doors as a resort.  We were lucky to spend one more night there on the 29th, our anniversary, and it was bittersweet.  Many happy memories are attached to this resort we love like an old friend.

It was always nice to stay at this unpretentious hotel on the south shore of Maui, because it was far from the more touristy resorts like the Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons. We appreciate that it was quiet and tranquil, as that's what we're used to.  As usual, the staff were all very … (9 comments)

hawaii life: Get ready for the work week Monday to Friday - 06/13/16 11:10 AM
Are you a Monday to Friday person?  Toiling away at your job 5 days a week?

Monday is not everyone's favorite day.  Why the long face?

Friday is the end of the work week and for many that means a weekend with no work.
"Aloha Friday" is what they say in Hawaii and it means good times are ahead!
Well in the real estate business, one day is much like the other and we are expected to be avaiable on weekends. So don't hesitate to call, email or text if you have questions about the Maui real estate market, or about living on Maui.  … (10 comments)

At the Maui Country Club in Spreckelsville they are doing so well with their family dinner nights that they are announcing a new "adults only" dinner night every Thursday.  Please leave the little ones at home so the adults can have a quiet evening enjoying some of the great food that Chef Sean Christensen prepares.

What are the other dinner nights?
Wednesday night is Taco Night with fish, beef, pork and chicken tacos. Salads, soup and other Mexican themed food is served. Friday night is Aloha Friday with a big selection of choice dinner items including prime rib and fresh fish. Vegetarian … (5 comments)

hawaii life: The natural beauty of Red Sand Beach in Hana Maui - 05/31/16 10:37 AM
Red Sand Beach is one of the unique highlights in Hana Maui, and worth a visit if you are brave enough to walk the narrow trail.  You can find the trail head near the end of Uakea Road in town.
Follow that trail at your own risk and be careful when navigating the steep parts that tower above the ocean.  Just go slowly and don't bring too many things with you.
Once you arrive at this beach you will appreciate how lovely it is.  The sand really is red due to the broken down volcanic rock, and it will even be hot … (13 comments)

hawaii life: Yellow bush beans right out of my Haiku Maui garden - 05/12/16 01:57 PM
Organic yellow bush beans, bursting with flavor and goodness.
Just picked this morning and ready to cook up tonight!  We sure do love growing our own organic vegetables on our Haiku property.  Every day we eat something we grew ourselves, and it's a great feeling to know where it comes from.
These days you kind of wonder about what you're putting in your body when you buy food at the store, or eat in a restaurant.  More and more I see people opt for the organic choice because they are concerned about pesticides. More and more young people are getting sick with ailments … (5 comments)

hawaii life: What's for sale in Makawao and Pukalani Maui today? - 04/30/16 10:57 AM
Makawao and Pukalani Maui Hawaii - market snapshot 2016
Makawao and Pukalani Maui are so close together they share a zipcode. There is some open space between these two towns, and the Maui Community Plan aims to keep it that way.  For now let's just lump them together for a quick market update.  Sometimes when you're searching for Maui properties for sale it's easy to miss something, and that's why I will include all classes of real estate here, houses, condos, land, commercial... and multi-family dwellings.

hawaii life: A new painted wall mural in Paia Maui's parking lot - 04/29/16 12:51 PM
This new addition to Paia's art scene is a fun painted wall mural in the public parking lot when you first enter town.  Painted in the spring of 2016 with help from the kids at the Paia Youth and Cultural Center.
Paia Maui is a little beach town on the north shore, with lots of cool shops and restaurants.  It's on the Hana Highway which is one of the major roads that circumnavigates the island, so it's really easy to find.
Pull into the parking lot on your right as you enter town, if you're coming from Kahului.  This wall is all … (8 comments)

hawaii life: Oceanfront shoreline in Olowalu Maui HI - 04/17/16 11:21 AM
Olowalu Maui HI
Olowalu is an oceanfront community on Maui with a historically significant shoreline of sandy and rocky beaches.  All of the beaches in Hawaii are public access and it's common to see people beachcombing or fishing, even camping out by the water.  Beachfront properties sell at a premium and you can see why.
The coral reef off shore is known as one of the healthiest on the island and it's home to black tip reef sharks and manta rays.  Snorkeling the reef is a popular activity for Maui visitors and residents.
Olowalu was an agricultural area in ancient times when sandalwood … (2 comments)

hawaii life: Paia Maui HI 96779 - what's for sale in this beach town today? - 03/29/16 11:08 AM
Can I buy a home or business in Paia Maui?
Everyone loves to come back to Paia Maui once they've visited this cute little beach town on the north shore.  It's no wonder, with the beautiful sandy beaches, the cute plantation style buildings and shops, and lots of great restaurants too. Paia has a way of getting under your skin, in a good way.

With so many fun shops and boutiques, the retail and commercial market is pretty exciting too.  Right now there are 2 fee simple commercial listings in Paia for sale.  Both … (4 comments)

hawaii life: Oranges, bananas, and a truck load of coconuts in Pukalani Maui - 02/05/16 11:04 AM
Oranges, bananas, and a truck load of coconuts in Pukalani Maui
I've been meaning to blog about the Upcountry Farmers Market in Pukalani Maui, but in the meantime this teaser photo will show you what bountiful fresh fruits we have here in the winter months.  Lots of citrus are in season now, and breadfruit too.  Bananas come ripe all year round.

I especially like to see that truck load of coconuts in the background.  People here love their coconut water as a refreshing drink to provide plenty of electolytes.  Might as well get it right from the source instead of a can.  We … (10 comments)
