Organic yellow bush beans, bursting with flavor and goodness.
Just picked this morning and ready to cook up tonight! We sure do love growing our own organic vegetables on our Haiku property. Every day we eat something we grew ourselves, and it's a great feeling to know where it comes from.
These days you kind of wonder about what you're putting in your body when you buy food at the store, or eat in a restaurant. More and more I see people opt for the organic choice because they are concerned about pesticides. More and more young people are getting sick with ailments … (5 comments)

Makawao and Pukalani Maui are so close together they share a zipcode. There is some open space between these two towns, and the Maui Community Plan aims to keep it that way. For now let's just lump them together for a quick market update. Sometimes when you're searching for Maui properties for sale it's easy to miss something, and that's why I will include all classes of real estate here, houses, condos, land, commercial... and multi-family dwellings.

This new addition to Paia's art scene is a fun painted wall mural in the public parking lot when you first enter town. Painted in the spring of 2016 with help from the kids at the Paia Youth and Cultural Center.
Paia Maui is a little beach town on the north shore, with lots of cool shops and restaurants. It's on the Hana Highway which is one of the major roads that circumnavigates the island, so it's really easy to find.

Can you believe it's that time again... the annual Haiku Ho'olaule'a Flower Festival is coming this weekend on Saturday April 23, 2016.
I've posted about this fun family day before and it's always fun to go and see what's happening.

Olowalu Maui HI
Olowalu is an oceanfront community on Maui with a historically significant shoreline of sandy and rocky beaches. All of the beaches in Hawaii are public access and it's common to see people beachcombing or fishing, even camping out by the water. Beachfront properties sell at a premium and you can see why.
The coral reef off shore is known as one of the healthiest on the island and it's home to black tip reef sharks and manta rays. Snorkeling the reef is a popular activity for Maui visitors and residents.

I've been meaning to blog about the Upcountry Farmers Market in Pukalani Maui, but in the meantime this teaser photo will show you what bountiful fresh fruits we have here in the winter months. Lots of citrus are in season now, and breadfruit too. Bananas come ripe all year round.
I especially like to see that truck load of coconuts in the background. People here love their coconut water as a refreshing drink to provide plenty of electolytes. Might as well get it right from the source instead of a can. We … (10 comments)

How refreshing it was to see the 4 new listings featured on the December Realtor Caravan this month. Fidelity Title sponsors our weekly events that cover the north shore, and Upcountry Maui. With nothing over $540,000 it was a stark contrast to the Paia/Haiku December caravan the previous week where nothing was under $1M. You really can't beat this part of the island when it comes to affordable housing with a friendly small town atmosphere.

There have been 6 closings, including one oceanfront property that has been on and off the market for years!

Fresh Smoked Pork from Makawao - a roadside treat
If you're looking for some fresh smoked pork, made from wild mountain pigs, look for this sign across from St. Joseph's Church in Makawao, Upcountry Maui. Lucky me I spotted the sign today and pulled over. For $20 I got a nice 2 pound bag with lots of smoky greasy strips of pork. The flavor is so good, with natural smoke and other seasonings. Straight from the mountain, into the smoker, and onto my table... I like that. This is how we do "sustainable food" on Maui.

Haiku Maui - new luxury listings offer some real surprises
Last week was the usual North Shore Maui Realtor Caravan, with lots of great new listings in Paia and Haiku featured and available to tour. We get together and visit the homes and properties as a way to preview for our clients. It's fun to network and keep abreast of the real estate market.
This past week offered up some fantastic luxury homes for sale and it's hard to say which one was the best!

Haiku Market grand opening - new owners, same great place
We recently had a change of ownership at the local Haiku Market, in downtown Haiku Maui. This little grocery store has been growing up and filling out over the past 14 years or so, with a great selection of items. The expansion and remodeling paid off, and they were bought out by the company that owns Foodland grocery stores here in Hawaii. But you won't be seeing the Foodland sign over the door... it will stay Haiku Market.
