If you want an oceanfront home in Kihei Maui, the options are somewhat limited, because much of the coastal real estate is taken up by condominium resorts, and beach parks. South Kihei Road is the main artery along the coastline, and there's a few streets that extend beyond this and offer some neighborhoods with single family homes. Uluniu Rd. is one, and Halama St. is another. Let's see what's happening on Halama St....
Halama Street - runs between Kalama Park to the south, and up to W. Kapu Rd. to the north.

I was searching for a good satisfying lunch to take home one day while on the south side of Maui, and thought I should try the food truck court on Piikea Street. What a nice surprise to find these four trucks:

Maui is still safe from the volcano on the Big Island
The volcanic activity on the Big Island right now is very dramatic and it makes for some compelling news coverage. It's a real disaster for those who are living near the flows, or downwind of the fumes. Many families are displaced and will never be able to return. My heart goes out to them. The eruption is still evolving and it seems to get worse every day.

We got to attend a YELP event at the Kihei Maui Outback Steak House last month, to sample some of the new menu items they're rolling out at all their locations. It was a well attended sit down meal for about 50 Yelpers and friends. We were treated like royalty, and the food and drinks just kept on coming! So many delicious things to try.

Where did the Mokulele Highway go? Maui breaking news!
Well the old answer would be: The highway went from Kahului in the north to Kihei in the south.
The new answer is: The Mokulele Highway (Route 311) has been renamed and it's now called Maui Veterans Highway. Governor David Ige signed the bill in April to make the change. The signs are now up, so don't be confused when you see them. Not so sure if Google is paying attention yet.

You might ask yourself... "Where can I find a hardware store in Kihei Maui?"
Look no further than the Azeka Place Shopping Center and Ace Hardware, at 1290 S. Kihei Rd. They're in the back of the shopping center, behind the Kihei Post Office, and towards the ocean. Call them at 808 879-7060
It's a perfectly good hardware store with all the usual items, including a paint center and a garden center. You can get keys cut and window screens repaired in short order. Customer service is friendly and smart. Plenty of free parking of course.

Not that many bank owned condos for sale on Maui
You would think there would be a lot of bank owned/REO condos in a resort area like Maui. Considering there are thousands of condos, I'm surprised to see there are only a few REOs in our MLS. There are probably still more coming, but for now this is what's available.
Currently there are only 16 of these bank owned foreclosure condominiums for sale, and 6 of those are under contract, leaving only 10 Active listings.

On the south shore of Maui you'll find some of the most affordable starter condos if you're a first time home buyer. Being close to the beaches is usually at the top of anybody's list, so these low priced listings should please most buyers.
Some of the larger complexes are Kihei Villages and Southpointe at Waiakoa, which have similar floor plans and design - single level units in 2-story buildings, in multiple buildings. There's now a pharmacy in Wailea at the Gateway Center, and they've been open since about October 2014. You can get your prescriptions filled at this new drug store, or just shop for those every day needs. Very convenient if you live in Maui Meadows, Kihei or Wailea Maui.
Hours of operation:

Well, this was one of the reasons anyway. The beaches here on Maui are so beautiful, and the water is warm. If the waves are up it's really fun to play in the foamy water.
Keawakapu Beach, Kihei Maui HI
