January 2024 real estate stats for Maui County, HIJust a quick peek at the housing market for my little island of Maui, with stats provided by Infosparks. The fire event from 6 months ago really created a big gap in housing, which caused prices to go up even further.

This month there was a lot about the local food and food security. We live on an island, and it's something we think about a lot since so much of our "food" is imported. The reality is that many good foods are grown here and we should be concentrating on eating more of that, and less of the stuff they ship in. Tropical flowers on Maui are always a hit
I've been a little lazy about blogging and it's time to change that! I know from seeing the stats that tropical flowers get some eyeballs, especially in the winter months, so here's some eye candy for those of you in the colder climates.
First pic is of orchids growing on a tree, which is pretty easy to do in many parts of the island.
The fragrant gardenia will bloom in the spring and fill the air with it's lovely scent.
These orchids were growing in Lahaina Maui, before the fire event of last year.

This has been a really crazy year for real estate sales in Maui County, with so many people wanting to move to a safe and beautiful location like Hawaii. The Covid pandemic has created a lot of options for people to work from home, so it might as well be Maui, if you can afford it.
Maui has a lot more than just beaches and condos, and you never know what you might find when you explore some of the upcountry and other locations that are more affordable.

Here's the latest statistical round up for those who love to crunch numbers.
For those who don't - let's just say all the indicators are WAY up, with the exception of Days on Market.
Sellers love that homes sell quickly and for full price.
Buyers are often disappointed when they don't get what they want.
Cash is king and there's LOTS of it.
And so it goes.

Got my Real Estate license in the mail - ready for 2 more years of helping buyers and sellers with their Maui Hawaii real estate comings and goings.
What some people don't know is that we Realtors have to keep up with continuing education requirements in order to stay abreast of recent changes in the laws, and other topics pertinent to our profession. Every 2 years we can then renew our business license in order to keep practicing. It's just part of doing business.
It feels really good to get that little white card in the mail! Here's to two more years.

As I'm updating some links on my eastmaui.com website today I'm noticing the active and pending listings in the different parts of Maui, Hawaii. A few random statistics caught my eye and it's interesting to see that the oceanfront segment of the market has a lot of inventory but very few properties under contract. It appears to be the toughest selling category, but this report does not include condos which is a whole different market.

Haiku has 33 listings of vacant land priced from $350,000 to $12,000,000 and only 3 are pending, priced from $360,000 to $479,500 Wailea has … (8 comments)

Maui's first medical marijuana dispensary finally opens!
It's been 17 years since medical marijuana has been legal in the state of Hawaii, and the first dispensary has now been green-lighted to open the doors and sell product to patients. Two outlets have been licensed to sell cannabis products on the island of Maui, and Maui Grown Therapies has passed all inspections and requirements to offer the dried flower buds for sale. Other related products are still waiting for the thumb's up from the Hawaii Department of Health.

The Sophie Swim event in Kaanapali Maui kicks off this year on Sunday August 28, 2016, from 7 - 10 am.
This fun event is for anyone 12 and older, in memory of Sophie DeLoria. It's an open water 2 kilometer swim from Kahekili Beach Park to Black Rock and back. It's a charitable event for the whole family to enjoy and participate in. Prizes will be awarded to winners and runners up.
Categories and age groups, with or without swim fins are separate:
